It's a strange world when we have to seek out others who think snow is "great."
I can't really talk about it in the Boston area, most people think snow is a major PITA, while I'm getting wound up. Very few people share in this enthusiasm. My relatives think that flailing down a hill with below freezing degree temps, falling, getting hurt, near death at hand is most ludicrous. A half inch of snow is enough to send them fleeing to the grocery, DVD store and hunker down for the day. For me, I'm scouting out where the deepest snow will be. Hmm. I heard that 5 million US skiers/boarders are the entire market - that's 2.5% of the population, guess we are a minority.
For those that really whine about the snow, at some point I nicely suggest they may want to "move south." I moved to NE for the snow. Of course, there are lots of other "practical" reasons they "must" stay around here. The owner of my dry cleaner shop was always bellyaching about the cold and snow. I kept at him for years. Last summer he sold the business and moved south. Little victories....
My brother used to call me from North Carolina gloat about how wonderful the weather was in the winter. He'd start by asking "how's the weather up there?" knowing damn well it was cold and snowing, which I politely reported. Then I usually just listened to how he's in his shorts, flowers have just bloomed, out on his bike, blah, blah.... Finally one day I'd had enough. When he asked I said "Hey, it's just fanstastic. It's snowed for a month and we've gone skiing, boarding, ice skaing, gone to a hockey game, watched some ski jumping, went on a bobsled run, went hiking in the woods, did a little BC, took a dog sled ride, made snowmen, taught the little ones to ski, went sledding, snowmobiling, had a rowdy snowball fight and built a snow fort. You should come up, it's great!" When I finally stopped, he said "Oh" and promptly changed the subject. I don't get the question any more.
