Why are snow-lovers politely considered "odd"?

I do LOVE summer, but I wish it was four months. The rest of year I'm cheering for snow and cold weather.

If I could find a place that was 27 degrees and snowing 8 months out of the year and the switch flipped to 80 and sunny for four months I'd move there in a heartbeat. Tahoe actually comes close to that. If I wasn't so fond of New England, I'd probably be living there right now.

The thing that drives me nuts, like others have mentioned above, is the damn weather people who get happy and upbeat when the temperature is warmer than usual in the winter or act down and depressed when they report snow in the forecast. I've actually yelled at the TV on several occasions when this happens. Hasn't made any difference though.

Most of the people here at work hate the snow and winter in general, even those who supposedly used to ski but don't for whatever reason now. I love it when the president of the company comes and sits with us at lunch because he's a big skier (has a second house up by Jay and is up there most weekends in the winter). All the usual whiners talk positively about snow and skiing because they all want to suck up to the big boss. Actually now that I think about it it kind of makes me sick... :puke:

My significant other used to hate winter, now she looks forward to it and wants to learn to ski.

So what are you waiting for? Get her out there already! I seem to remember you saying that she wanted to learn last season too...

So Brian, tell your President that all potential new hires must take a ski test as a hiring prerequisite.

I'm sorry but that's a situation where you need get the brown nose out and get tight with the president. :-o

Yes, she wanted to. And she also worked two jobs, had an internship, and was finishing her last semester of college as an adult learner. Not exactly the easiest time learning when you work both Saturday and Sunday....

Sounds like she had a full plate for sure. Hopefully you'll be able to get her out on skis this year. She'll be ripping up the trees at Jay with you in no time. :spin:

Excellent thread

I haven't been keeping up with this forum of late and I saw this one and really enjoyed the read. I live in Halifax, NS, Canada and while our winters are pretty mild, I do love the snow and the crisp cold weather. My wife, on the other hand, is always cold, hates driving at the best of times let alone in winter but does enjoy skiing (finally got her back on skis a couple of years ago). We had a dusting of snow overnight last night and her first comment on looking out the window was something like "I hate the winter" ?!?!? How can you hate the winter and enjoy skiing ? Beyond me to figure out.... My first response was an internal "WAHOOOO" and a relatively quick dash to the computer to check out the webcam at our ski hill - happy to see snow on the hill and the snow guns set up, but unfortunately not making snow yet...

I enjoyed the comments from the northern NYers - I grew up in southern Ontario and I always remember northern NY (our cable TV carrier carried the ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates from Buffalo) getting huge dumps of snow while we would get somewhat less - made me kinda jealous...
