Why You Stay Away From Race Courses

If I recall correctly, that was actually a national team coach (forgot from what country) who wasn't paying attention during a world cup downhill training run :eek:

Pretty sure I remember that they both sustained broken bones

Growing up at Burke Mountain, I learned pretty quickly to stay the hell away from the courses. In an ideal resort you'd place the course on its own trail without any intersections or crossing traverses. Now as drjeff said, it looked like this guy appeared to be a part of the race crew, but he was right under that bank.

I've seen some close calls before at many different places. Nothing like this though.

"Actually, his name is Harald Schoenauer, he was Phil and Steve Mahre's personal coach, worked for Marker Ski Bindings GERMANY in product development and marketing and was also a race official. His radio didn't receive the "racer-on-course" call, so he started to slip the course. Wrong place, wrong time."
