Will I Have to Re-Drill?

Hey all,

As I scour the web endlessly looking for some good boot deals -- another issue has been weighing on my mind.

I recently purchased a pair of K2 one luvs, which I absolutely luv! However, the boots that I had the bindings (Marker IBX 11.0) set to are absolutely too big for me. I got them from a friend for the season, and while they were work-able for this season alone, when I purchase my own boots (soon), they will likely be a full size smaller.

My question is - do Marker bindings have enough "play" that when my new boots arrive, I will simply be able to have the toe/heel pieces moved in to compensate for the shorter sole length? Or, will the difference be too great? Is a re-drill necessary? What does a re-drill mean with respect to the integrity of the ski?

I don't know much about the construction or mounting of this sort of binding (as you can tell). Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks!

What's the difference in boot size? The shell of the boot may be the same size but the lining may be smaller. Either way, the shop should be able to take care of your needs.

The boot I was using would probably fit a size 10 woman's foot, and the new boot will fit a size 9. I'm assuming that a full street shoe-size difference will affect the shell size (?).

I also forgot to mention that the bindings are part of an integrated system, and not directly mounted to the ski itself. I'm not sure if this affects my question or not...

With integrated systems there is a fixed plate mounted to the ski, and the heel and toe bindings can be moved throught the full range of boot sizes, by loosening a screw. without re drilling and remounting the bindings. A shop tech can do this in about 30 seconds. I am assuming yours are like this, because My Atomics with integrated bindings are. I guess that term applies throuout the industry.

So it should be a very simple matter to move your heel and toe peice to accomidate your new boots, and won't require re-drilling and remounting the bindings.

As far as re drilling, you can do it multible times and it if done properly by a good tech shouldn't dammage skis. It usauly costs about 30 bucks or so to get bindings remounted, and if you are buying skis or bindings it is often free.

If your bindings turn out not be be the kind of system I am thinking about, and you end up having to redrill it shouldn't be much of a problem. Just talk to a shop tech, and they will explain everything to you.

Yes, the integrated system on my K2s are exactly like you described - I wasn't aware that they were so adjustable.

Thanks for the information!

Ordinary bindings can be adjusted some, though an integrated system should be adjustible through the full range of possible boot sizes.

size is not important, it is the shell size. That number can usually be found on the outside of the boot, on the part that faces outward when you wear it. It will be a raised plastic print right infront of the heel peice. Most likely will be between 300-325 for a size 10 boot. Compare it to the boots that the skiis were mounted for. Many bindings have a adjustable range in the +/- 15mm.

Even if you have to remount, you may not have to redrill. many modern recreational skiis come with pre drilled holes that are covered up by the lifter plate on the binding. This is most popular on skiis that are binding specific (require a specific brand or model)
