Will we see any lift-serviced skiing on T-Day weekend?

Everyone knows the forecast looks better after this weekend, but even so, I don't see temps needed for round-the-clock snowmaking at this point. Higher elevations should be able to make snow at night though. I'm trying to remain optimistic, but next week still doesn't look anywhere near as good as the 3-4 day round-the-clock window we had at the beginning of the month, and we all know how many ski areas opened up after that. I'm hoping this crappy start just means a cold and snow Dec - Mar...

I Think you might get some lift serviced terrain open by thanksgiving friday. Looks like there will be nighttime snowmaking at most moutains from monday -thursday. What they can produce however is another question. Would help alot to get some natural help but none of that is coming for awhile. The best hope for natural snow actually would be extended lake effect of upslope snows in the adirondacks, catskills and jay peak.

I think we're better off at this point with just cold and dry. Any upslope or lake effect is just going to bring humidity levels up and that's not good. Unless of course we get hit with enough nat that snowmaking is moot. That would be nice.... ;)

Yea- cold and dry would be just fine and that's just what we'll get. Raising the humidity lowers the real temperature that is required for the snow blowing and with that in mind it would seem even more logical to blow snow on higher terrain because not only is it colder but the air is less humid.
anyway- the air upcoming should be dry enough for some good full on snowmaking.

While I am no weather man, I think that the resorts will be more motivated to take advantage of snow making temperatures at night and take some financial risks to open for the thxgivin weekend. I think that if the temperatures are there and its cold enough to open for the holiday weekend, the resorts will do everything possible to take advantage and do so. Snowmaking is expensive, but so is having a ski hill sitting around doing nothing for months.

That's what I really meant to say.
The headlines will read "Massive turkey day travel problems as dramatic wind shifts releases unprecedented six day long blizzard. Storm totals of 36 inches not uncommon. Arctic Air settles into region - long term forcasts call for 30 days of temps below freezing."

You mean 120 days, don't you? Okay. I'll take 90.

Damn you pessimists! Not only will we have lift serviced next week, you'll have trouble getting to it cause of the blizzard :spread: :snow: :spread:
Now you're talking! :spread: :spread: :snow:

I'm trying to be optimistically realistic.

Or is it realistically optimistic?

At any rate, my schedule early next week is  and :x. I was hoping that we'd have a Monday or Sunday opening. Not in the cards I don't think.

I'm going to go way out on a limb here and predict that there will be lifts turning starting on this Sunday. I do have some inside info but not much.

I'm still in denial and I refuse to discuss it!

Greg - you need to decide whether you're trying to lift our spirits up or bring it down - I don't know how much longer I can take of this rollercoaster:

11/15/2006 Greg: Who's skiing Thanksgiving weekend?
11/16/2006 Greg: Will we see any lift-serviced skiing on T-Day weekend?

;)

Don't blame you...

The total amount of sunlight's been quite low lately and it's not like we can say "at least we can go out skiing".

Actually, I'm waiting on how the overall AZ mood changes over the weekend if ski areas can/do take advantage of the forecast cool down...

I have to agree, I believe that some slopes will do their best open before Thanksgiving. This is not going out on the limb. They need to open earlier to make sure everything is running smoothly when the crowds come. Sunday maybe a bit optimistic, but I believe no later than Tueseday.

Forgot:

Sugarbush
Jay Peak
Hunter
Windham
Bellyeare

Just to name a few, they're good for next week too. As a matter of fact, just about every resort out there will try to open by Thanksgiving.

There will be lift served if I have to break in and turn on some lifts myself.

And we all know Marc and electricity don't mix, so, let's keep that in mind.
