drive up tonight, in this crap? The wives are a little worried.....the thinking being that it's gonna freeze over in NH....with roads obviously being bad. We plan on leaving RI about 7.....I would certainly be real careful, but I'll admit I'm getting a little hesitant. Oh yeah, free lodging and lift tix.

It's not worth it. Trust me. The first two hours this morning were nice. I left before noon time though when it started raining. The roads suck and the skiing will not be good tomorrow based on what I saw today.

Where were you? From skimrv.com it seems like it was snow-sleet-snow and overall a net gain, even if the snow wasn't powder.

Burke. Definitely a net gain, snow was dense pow in the morning before the change over. An overnight freeze up will not make for good conditions tomorrow though.

Jackson, skiing Attitash.

Over the X'max holiday, I was in the similar situation that after good snow coverage, it rained heavily followed by freezing temperature. I was expecting miserable condition but it turned out to be very good condition on their groomers. Very limited experience so I don't know if it will apply to today's condition but since they got 10 inches of snow out of this, you might get pleasantly surprised.

Now, driving is different story...

Thanks. Would you say the weekend outlook is not good, then?
Last I heard, snow was in the forecast for NoVT so this shouldn't have too much effect on the weekend pending we pick up more snow. Not sure about other locales, which in my recommendation was specifically in reference for Attitash tomorrow but I would generalize that to anything outside of NoVT.

I'm going tomorrow afternoon to the same area to ski Black Mountain on Friday....and have same concern what conditions going to be.

I called to BM and they said after receiving about 10 inches it was freezing rain and supposably go below freezing overnight so they will do good grooming ....at least person I spoke with was sounds optimistic..

well, we made it without incident....the roads were fine till about halfway up rt 16....my truck decided to start fishtailing on black ice, so I pulled over and put it in 4wd, and there were no problems after that.

I thought that 4wd made no difference in terms of sliding? Or was it just a coincidence that we did slide after i put it on?

Anyway, the skiing was OK at best, the rain created a pretty thick crust, it was breakable, but Once you were in, good luck turning.......I tried once and fell on my first turn attempt. That was it for the woods. The grromed trails were firm but edgeable. Since we didn't have to pay for anything, the trip was well worth it.

My friend had quite a yard sale on "avenger" and lemme tell you it was pretty funny, the snow was so firm he slid about 200 yard, losing equipment the whole way. Of course, me being the nice guy I am, had to get photographic evidence. I'll dig up a pic later.
