Yamaha used to make skis. I saw one today. HAd the logo, said Yamaha, and it says it was made in Duxbury, MA. Pretty cool. BTW they were the old straight skis. 8)

True...Yamaha made a decent, reasonably priced recreational ski for beginners and intermediates. They were rather popular through the mid 1970's. I don't remember a factory being located in Duxbury, Mass, as I grew up close to there and probably would have been aware of it. But, hey, Boston Whaler built boats in the area for years, so why couldn't there be a ski factory too?

Yamaha. Is there anything they can't do?
Skis, motorcycles, guitars, snowblowers, small engines, lawnmowers, jet skis, snowmobiles, the list just goes on and on!

Yes, my sister had a pair. They were a very bright blue (maybe robin's egg blue). She had an AMC Hornet that was the same horrible color. I skied them once or twice,I hated them. Her's had solomon 444 bindings, complete with runaway straps.

FYI, they make other musical instruments as well. I had a yamaha clarinet in my collection a while ago and I know they make other instruments as well. Most are beginner and intermediate level.

Don't forget golf clubs too. I had an old yamaha 8-iron that I used to wack around in my yard

Funny you should bring this up...I own a Pro Audio company and was researching specs on a Yamaha mixer for a customer just an hour ago and got to thinking about that when I was looking at a piano sitting next to an R1.

Yamaha actually makes some very nice pro saxophones and pianos...

Yep, I remember Yamaha skis. Yamaha tennis rackets. Yamaha motorcycles. Yamaha outboard motors. Yamaha pianos. Yamaha electric organs (the Electone!).

I even remember having a Yamaha melodion sometime in the 80's. It was basically a keyboard which you blew into. Like a cross between a piano, an accordion and a trumpet. My music teacher thought that it was going to be the next big thing.

Stupid question but is Yamaha still around?

I remember some Yamaha racing skis as well. Black with racing stripes tip to tail. I believe the Yellow stripes were on the DH, Red on the GS and White on the Slalom. This would have been around 1970. I don't remember anyone medalling on them in the Olympics and they sort of faded away.

I think the intermediate ski series was called the "All Around". "All Around I", "All Around II", etc..

What ever happened to Hart skis? (I think the graphics of the Yamaha racing skis reminded me of them. Hart Javelin (White with Black) and a red w/black "Javelin XXL" (I think.) I believe that was their DH ski. I had a pair of Hart Comps, which were probably circa 1973, but I don't remember them being around much after the '70's.

Anyone remember the Hart pin " Ski With A Hart On". Had to be about 84'.

I had a pair of 205cm Yamaha GS race stocks, They were all white, with no graphics at all. Test ski or something? They were nice skis for the time. Was around 81'.

Yamaha used to also make tennis racquets, ala Volkl and Fischer.

As for Hart, the Gremlin model was a mainstay for rentals in the 80s...

There's nothing Yamaha doesn't make!

Ah, but it's tough to find a better bump ski than the Hart F17 (barring the latest models of pro comp bumps skis, of course).

Yamaha is probably just a brand name used by some Japanese conglomerate. I could look it up but it's late! The Panasonic brand is another example - no company with the name just a brand.

Hart Comps rocked. A buddy of mine had a pair- expensive - I kind of remember the they delaminated ( if that's the proper description) before the first season was over.

which makes me think of a different but related subject, the thing that really impresses me about skis today is how tough the bottoms are - I remember back in the late 70's/80's, one day out and your bottoms were trashed.
