 You know you're a real skier if...

  • Your significant other thinks diamonds are black.
  • Have broken or torn something on your body.
  • You own a $400.00 dress or suit, but have a $1500.00 ski outfit.
  • Have more skiing pictures than wedding pictures.
  • Complain about a $5.00 hamburger, but have no problem paying $80 for a lift ticket.
  • Your ski gear is worth more than your car.
  • You pay off your Visa by the end of summer just to make room for ski season.

See how funny your girlfriend thinks being a "ski wodow" is if she becomes your wife and a couple of kids come along and she's home takin care of the house and them while your off skiing.

she's actually looking forward to shipping off kids someday with me to go skiing, so she can get a break from them. Truth be told I wish she'd learn, but she's quite stubborn and has no interest.

I know how you feel, I've lived it for 22 years. No matter what it's always a strain at some point every season. I'm not blaming just her either.

she's fairly reasonable about my enjoyment of the sport. It's a balancing act between home time with her and getting me time on the hill. Truth be known, my hope is that our eventual kids will fall for the sport and love it as much as I do and do a little dirty work for me so I can ski more often. This of course is contingent upon being able to afford to have the family ski as much as I'd like. While skiing doesn't have to be expensive, it is never cheap :(

As it was, as it is, as it will always be. ;-)

I disagree with #3 on the list . . . I rarely see hardcore rippers in $1500 ski "outfits". In fact, merely calling one's Jacket and Pants an "outfit" is enough to mark someone a Gaper in my book.

Skis worth more than Car, though . . . That's definitely true in my house.

Yea, outfit worth $1500 only if that includes boots, skis, bindings, helmet, goggles, etc. As far as clothing, I think I might have about half of that tops including base layers, pants, jacket, gloves, helmet, and goggles but even then I think it would fall closer to $600 all told.

I also object to $5 hamburger versus $80 lift ticket. Hamburgers cost much more than $5 and no real skier pays $80 for a lift ticket    Flame suit on but it was just a joke!!!

My gear is definitely worth more than my car. Maybe twice as much. Not sure if that says more about my gear or my car....

Hmmm, Gaper. Definition #2 is interesting. I always loved this term.

Keep in mind none of us probably pay retail (I don't). Lets see; Arc'teryx jacket $500, Arc'teryx bib $400, La Montana bottoms $60, Euros $50, Capilene top $38, Capilene boxer $28, Arc'teryx fleece $200, Patagonia body rug (cold days) $115, Leki glove $180, Leki pole $125, Slalom ski $1200, Surefoots $1400, Helmet $100, Ballaclava $30, Goggle $160.

Did I leave anything out?

$4586 ouch. That’s just one set of clothing and skis. How many of us have stuff for every conceivable type of weather?

Insanity. No wonder wives want to kill us.

You marry someone significantly shorter than you, because you walk with your knees bent 10 months out of the year.

Last year was tough for that with a newborn in the house, only managed to get out 10 times.

This year, she seems to expect it, which is promising....at least up until I'm up approaching 20 days and the usual hints of unpleasantness come out as she realizes that it's a long season indeed.

Still, probably next year I can get the boy out there in some capacity, which is promising for both of us.

you look forward to driving in road conditions that cause the non skiing public to cancel all their plans

your idea of the perfect day is referred to as the "perfect storm" by the meteorologists

you need your cell phone to recall anyone's phone number but you can spit out the dimensions of your last 3 pair of skis without hesitation

my car is a 98, the oldest ski I'll be on this winter is an 07
