Seems to be a lack of patrollers which im thinking is why runs are not opening. Heard this is a prob at Hunter..and im seeing it at Gore. When i was at plattekill there was plenty of them..today at Gore i saw 2..many glades and runs closed..and i know there is snow in there..bony runs under the lifts were open as they are in plain view..the hidden ones..mostly closed...this isnt good.

A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
A lot of these guys are older hence it's not worth it to be out there and risk covid. Also there's a lot of perks to being a patroller with free/discount tickets at a ton of other mountains....I'm ASSuming not many places are doing that this year. It's Jan 30th and I haven't used any kind of industry deal through PSIA as I'm very sure few places are offering any kind of discount ticket this season.

Less perks now compared to years ago, but still ski free most days.

Day job is way riskier than patrolling

Well considering how many runs are closed at Gore..that are covered in snow I can only assume its the reason. Did see a few today hauling someone down.

"Free Pass" after you work 20-25, 10 hour days
Do the math, you're getting about $3/hour.

But that being said, I've done it for 30+ years (Stratton, SR, The Cat)

And I don't instructs people on forums seems like u would enjoy that
First of all, internet forum is THE place for people to mouth off (glorified as "share"). So get used to it! You do it just like everyone else. You need to realize you're as much a sinner as the next one.

If I have the time, I'd prefer teaching skiing (which I did a couple seasons, I quite enjoy that. But the pay was no better).

To teach, people thank you (sometime with tips). As a ski patrol, seems like a lot of the time you "instruct" people what NOT to do, I suspect there's rarely a positive response.

But to do either, you need to be out there even when it's bitterly cold, the slope is a skating ring, or pissing rain! I don't know how many people like "instructing" people THAT MUCH!

I considered it when I was a kid, thought free skiing and meeting girls would be cool, then I remembered that due to my mother being a nurse I didn’t want any part of blood and guts, her stories at the Dinner table where something else, don’t even like driving by a hospital much less being in one.

They do it for the same pay as a kid making fries at McDonalds...amazing to think about that..but its not for the money for sure...but..when a company like FAIL..pisses on them...we'll see how that pans out soon enough.
