i suspect most ski schools just automatically assume folks better than that probably won't be taken any lessons.

I think that is a true statement.

A lot of people can ski "anywhere, anytime" but are you charging down the slope at a high rate of speed gracefully. If you can't then drop yourself to an 8

I was very dissappointed in the animations. The beginner and intermediates were showing some highly advanced technical moves, yet the upper levels just showed some dude banging down the slopes.

Most ADVANCED lessons I teach are not capable of half the stuff they were showing at level 4. (look at the knees, very very dynamic movements which do not typically happen at low levels)

So wait, you teach advanced lessons that are not advanced?

why do you or your school call it advanced, marketing?

seem completely irresponsible of you to even use the word advanced.

advanced to me would mean the skier has all the basic skills needed to ski an expert slope well, but needs refinement to get smoother and faster.

In my opinion most instructors are just intermediate skiers anyway

I guess I'm an 8. It's hard to be sure though since I don't know much about the terrain at Aspen Snowmass.

Interesting test. It truely doesn't test the overall aspects of snowboarding. Saying that you can board anything, anytime is a level 9? How about how well you ride the diamonds and double diamonds. There should be a clearer examination of the rider\skiier once you identify the type of terrain you believe you can handle... can you handle your turns? what degree pitch do they consider? what is your reaction time to something in the trail (rocks, trees, ice).

Interesting opinion. You know the PSIA exams get more difficult each year. Becoming a PSIA Level 3 means that you can ski\ride anything\anytime backwards if needed. There are some resorts that have better instructors than others... then I understand your opinion, but getting an expert \ specialized instructor will certainly improve anybody's skills unless you can say your footage is on TGR, Warren Miller, Meatheads, etc...

I have my Level III certification...and I totally agree with this statement.

But that's because 80% of the lessons taught at most mountains are level 5 lessons and below. Once most folks get a working knowledge of parallel turns they stop taking lessons for the most part.

It costs more to hire a fully certified instructor, so most are Level I or II and most of them teach beginner lessons. You don't have to be an expert skier to do that.

Jackson Hole has some fun lessons. Just line up in the #8 slot. You'll soon find out if you should have.
