Hey:

Anyone have any thoughts on the X-Wing Tornado?

What's a good price (new) for last year's model?

Is this years' model that much different and worth buying over lasts year?

I demo'd a pair last year and they seemed pretty good.

40-50% off MSRP is a good price for last year's ski new. Only difference between this year and last is in the integrated plate that attaches the binding (if you're talking about the system ski and binding)...otherwise, same construction in the ski. I like the ski..really versatile, carves a great turn, smooth and stable...its a wood core...one of the best skis Salomon has made in years. I skied on them at the industry demo...so 3 days of skiing on everything the industry has to offer and the Tornado was one of the best IMO. MSRP on the Tornado Z12 system was $1085. The ski was also sold without the "system" so ski only, for $700.

Thanks E.C. powderhound.

Someone told me recently that the foam core Salomon uses can break down if you ski them hard. So this is a wood core? That's good to hear.

Yeah, I tried them twice and really liked them the first time. Somehow the second time didn't thrill me as much and I couldn't figure out why. Might have been the price tag!

Yup, full woodcore (edge to edge) on the tornado. Could have been the tune...or lack of...sometimes demo skis don't get all the love they deserve. One of the guys I ski with bought a pair last year and loves them...he's a hard skier...6'1 about 190, short turns, long turns, bumps, etc. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried them...I'd been underwhelmed by most of their skis for a few years and was expecting more of the same...but they've turned things around for the better with the Tornado and the other higher end X-wing skis. Hope you enjoy them!
