It appears that the Hidden Valley sale went through and that it will be open for the 2007-2008 season.:-D The Hidden Valley Alpine Racing Association website has had the most up to date information I could find and it says:

"* The new owners of Hidden Valley will be announcing exciting opportunities for supports to become involved in the transformation of Hidden Valley into a premier ski location. More information will be available soon."

I plan to support the resort and wish the new owner success.

That's good...it, is in my opinion at least the only half-way decent mountain in NJ. Unless you're learning (in which case it's pretty good), Campgaw is way too easy, and MC is terrible if you don't like parks.

Did that group from Newton buy the place as was hoped for? Did they succeed in getting some relief from the "Highlands Act" to allow expansion/upgrades?

I'm assuming it was the group from Newton but I'm not sure, I haven't been able to find any other news about it besides the HVARA web site saying that they have new owners and exciting changes are happening. It seems only fair that if Mountain Creek gets relief from the Highland act they should too, but I don't know.

For what it's worth....I was out and about at lunch time and stopped by Hidden Valley. Only people around were a couple of guys in the maintenence shed. Asked if they plan to open this season, to be able to make snow, they answered, "Absolutely".

How's the terrain at Hidden Valley? Do they let anything bump up?

I haven't skied at Hidden Valley in at least 5 years.
Maybe 750' vertical.
Two summit lifts (?). Basically 3 ways from top to bottom. Bumps that do form were typically scraped to a shine and then mowed down. The minimal snowfall and snowmaking just sufficient to make it look white in the NJ Highlands makes for often rough conditions.
Nice bar, though.....

I skied there once about 8 years ago. About a one minute trip from top to bottom.

I grew up skiing Hidden Valley. I had planned to take my three kids there this year to see where dad started skiing. Glad to see there is some hope. I always remember my parents partying in the lodge bar during our schools friday night ski trips...that place rocked hard.

Hidden Valley may be small and it may be in New Jersey - - - but it turned out the FIRST Gold Medal Champion for mogul skiing in the 1992 Olympics!

Donna Weinbrecht - the mogul goddess grew up skiing there as well as several other US Ski Team members.

Donna Weinbrecht also has the honor of being the FIRST skier to be inducted into the Sussex County Sports Hall of Fame in Sussex, NJ. The Sussex County Sports Hall of Fame was started in the 1970s and up until this year had no skiers in it.

SKI NEW JERSEY!!!

Yup, but that's the same for just about every other area around NJ/PA. I've done 45 second runs on Challenge/Falls at Blue before.

There's no T-Bar at Hidden Valley, NJ

Only 3 chair lifts. I think there is a handle tow for the snow tubing section.

Does that include Homestretch??? I'd love to do a chinese downhill at Blue with some AZers...my racing buddy showed me a way to get even lower in the tuck and block the wind with my hands out in front of my helmet..mad steezy..I'd love to do a radar gun day at Blue..way more accurate than GPS watches..I'd definitely have to ditch my jacket though and do it in straight underarmour..

Most of it, to about the first tower on the lift.

You have to watch your speed a bit, if you go too fast into Falls, I've seen some incredible crashes on it from getting too much air off it.

I've never cleared the entire falls..but one day last season with a spotter..I cleared over half of it..maybe 2/3 of it..but there was a small lip..and I lifted off...ahhh:spread::spread:

I fell down the whole run at Hidden when I was there. Really pissed off the guy who I passed. I think it was my second year skiing.

The sale of Hidden Valley was completed yesterday. Here is an excerpt from a letter by one of the former owners:

"Yesterday, after ten grueling hours at the attorneys office, Don and I "closed" the sale of Hidden Valley. Our hearts are lifted as there was a real possibility that we would have had to close the ski area and to know that now its future is secure makes us very happy."
