I have been skiing for a few seasons now and I want to compile data of how people put on their skis.
Here is where You all come in.
What foot do you use first to step into your binders?
your Left or your right?
And do you Knock off the snow first before you preform such acts?
If so what foot do you clean off first?
Left or right?
Do you use your ski pole or knock the snow that sticks to the sole of your boots?
Or are you limber enough to balance on one foot and "dust" it off with your glove?
If so what foot do you balance on?
Thanks in advance.

I don't have a foot preference with which foot I put in my bindings first, I guess whatever feels right at the time. I'll usually just hit my boot with my pole a few times before I put it into the binding, then lean on that pole while I hit my other boot and insert it into the other skis binding.

Left food first...I usually don't need to knock the snow off my boot but if I need to I use my poles. BTW great thread:-?

around the same time people in america started using the term "off piste" if someone use either term i just ignore them.

"binder" has been around since I started skiing in the 1960's.

"Hors piste" and "Off piste" have been around forever. Any Ski/Skiing Mag story with a French ski area certainly used the term. Part of the marketing of skiing has always been to inject French and German terms to make the sport seem more exotic.

"Boy, those French... they have a different word for everything."

I scrape the snow off the bottom of my boot by dragging it over the toe piece. I almost always scuff both boots in the snow to make sure I've removed all the grit. I'm right handed so I start with the right ski more often.

STFU - Are you serious? Who pays attention to this crap?
+1
SJR's just getting a laugh each time anyone actually responds w/ info about how he puts on skis. He cant ski this week so he's getting his jollies by making fun of others. Seems to be getting a bit more mean spirited on this board lately.

STFU?
WOW, we have to party!
Think leg dominance ....every one has one!
even you.
I have to write a paper for PSIA-e on how to recognize such actions.
and how noticing such actions might help a skier/rider become a better skier/rider.
I hope that the words that I just typed opened you mind, think about it when you drop down.
What leg do you start off with?
When you are getting ready to step into a seep section do you start off with your stronger leg without even thinking about it, letting the limbec part of the brain take over?

I use my, err, middle leg. That's the dominant one. ;)

SJR!

I'm usually a right foot 1st kind of guy for stepping in 1st and snow clearing.

My clearing method is the sole my boot against the toe piece

If need be, balancing even in a ski boot on a hard packed sidehill isn't an issue for me with either foot.
