Last week was freezing! When daytime highs are around -10F... You'd think the snowpack would get really affected by this. Jay Peak mentionned receiving snow here and there through the week... 6in of snow... Last major storm was about 2 weeks ago.

We had to go out. Temps were still below zero when we got out but we had well over an hour of access time before we started climbing for real... Not to mention that it's nowhere near civilization... So don't go expecting signs and parking like other places... We had to drop the car further then expected. So we got warmed up really easily. Snow was great. Not even sticky... except for the first half hour as the skins were cooling down.

We got to the bottom of our hill. We call it JapanLand. Mature trees are all over. No new-growth in between them. Wide open space to lay down some turns. As you reach the bottom, trees are smaller... so there are still a few branches in the way... but it's never a problem on a board.

The hill is a bit less then 1000ft vertical... We lapped it 3 times. Virgin all the time.

By far the best outting of the season so far! 12in of snow that you can really lean into and carve a turn... But then you drop off and get treated to faces shots for 2-3 bounce. Amazing.

Great pictures! I'm assuming the terrain you where skiing was "au natural" or was there some trimming involved?

Look as natural as normal Northern Vermont...

Seriously, i know what you're trying to imply... but up here, everything gets "trimmed" by riding all season on the overgrowth... And i didn't see any deadfalls... As i said, a pretty mature forest that is low maintenance.

We stopped by the shop on sunday and they were saying that since Big Jay was open a week ago, the place is being bombed! So much trafic, that place is getting turned into a bump trail! MOGULS in the backcountry...

I definately prefer when the ridge is closed! Last year was awsome!
