Can't the same argument be made against grooming machines that you're making against moguls? Groomed trails always end up getting icier than natural snow trails...(provided there isn't any NCP) and I tend to enjoy skiing ungroomed terrain (ie. woods!) more than anything else.

I'm no clit and i've never been to sundown...don't really have any plans to go either...but what's so bad about having artificial bumps to make a relatively short, not so steep trail that much harder? Sounds fun to me.

Clearly if groomers were able to make continuous laps on all the terrain, all day long, then this would be a better world.

Better yet, they could give everyone a personal mini-groomer and then you could go up and down the mountain all day, enjoying all the beautiful scenery and never have to get cold, or sore, or climb into those uncomfortable boots, or all the other annoying things that come with skiing.

It should be mandatory for skis and snowboards to be fitted with the same "mudflaps" as a groomer is, so every skier/rider behind them gets perfect cord every time.

Okemo - this is my idea and you owe me royalties when you implement this

Same thing happened this year on Stinger. The ungroomed 1/2 of the trail became a sheet of ice because all the "normal" skier traffic was forced to one side and they had to skid/slide. .
What's "normal" skier traffic in this case? Are there no other trails down?

One way to avoid that sheet of ice is just make the WHOLE trail bumps... ;)

So I guess then we should get rid of the terrain parks too! cause they ruin the whole trail not just half of it!!!:daffy:
Ooops! Somebody else had already thought of that! :daffy:

This doesn't seem to be a problem at the larger ski areas where they have plenty of room on the trails to suit different skiers needs. On the other hand, at the smaller areas where the trails are limited and they put in moguls or a terrain park it takes away a run that some of the public enjoyed in the past. I've heard complaints like this time and again from different skiers and pass holders especially. I guess its hard to please everyone!!
Since when "groomed" runs are consider THE runs of resorts? ;)

So, it's not so much bumps (or parks) "taking away" trails from the groomer zoomers. It's what sort of clientel the resort would like to cater to. If the resort want to cater to ALL kind of skier/riders, it'll need to balance the number of groom/bump/park/natural. Make it all groom, some of the skiers will stay away. Make it all parks, only the park rats will come. I don't INSIST resorts to cater to my favor. Instead, I vote with my wallet by going to one that has what I look for. In a way, I do influence what they choose to do.

Sounds like a job for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

A unique law enforcement agency in the United States Department of Justice that protects our communities from violent criminals, criminal organizations, the illegal use and trafficking of firearms, the illegal use and storage of explosives, acts of arson and bombings, acts of terrorism, the illegal diversion of alcohol and tobacco products and seeded moguls at alpine ski areas. We partner with communities, industries, law enforcement, public safety agencies and the National Ski Patrol to safeguard the public we serve through information sharing, training, research, and use of technology.

i was thinking it would be a perfect opportunity for the goverment to form a new department, FBBM or Federal Bureau of Bumps and Moguls. Greg could be the director.

BUT your group might be cool too as it sounds like they get to carry guns!

Groomed flat runs...can be very boring after a while...unless they are very steep. Squaw Valley has some nice groomed runs..at about 35 to 40 degrees..they're fun though.

With the rise of terrain parks, detachable lifts, padded seats, grooming and snowmaking, our sport has gone to hell!

For want of those days of ski delamination, t-bars, rope tows, glare ice and course obstacles. :p
