Conditions at Mt. Snow are as good as can be given the lack of snow. Lots of really fast groomed trails...Plummet on the North Face is great right now. Only a couple good bump trails...Fallen Timbers is surprisingly good, troughs not too hard yet. RollerCoaster on the main face is also bumped but a bit firmer (a LOT FIRMER) than TImbers.

I don't imagine there's too much variation in conditions throughout VT this weekend.

From all reports, Stowe has received the most natural lately. That's where I'd be if my schedule allowed.

You want hardcore and less lines..Smuggs.

you're joking right?

I bet Smuggs has the longest lift lines of any New England ski area this week. All slow doubles, no singles lines.

I'd say Mt Ellen is probably the best option for great expert terrain and no lift lines right now. I'd still ski Stowe over Ellen though. I enjoy the terrain that much more that I'm willing to spend 10-15 minutes in a singles line to ski it.

REALLY GOOD packed powder/machine groomed snow on the open trails (almost 90% of the mountain) today! Plus they've got seeded bumps on rollercoaster, yard sale, bear trap and a bunch of northface trails with "natural" bumps! "Reasonable" crowds today too!'

Skied Sugarbush today with just my brother....got a free pass from the wife for the day. My bro's buddy got us discounted tix..which were waiting for us at Lincoln Peak, where he was working today. Thank you very much!. We got started a little late and the first line was about 7-10 mins. After that, we waited in the heaven's gate chair for about another 7 mins and that was the last of the lines for the day. The tops of the steep runs at the top of Lincoln and Castlerock peaks were dicey at best. Depending on the trail, there were rocks, boulders, clear ice, dirt, grass, and some soft snow thrown in. (a typical day in Vermont, no?). They need snow bigtime!!! The bottoms of those trails lower angled trails were skiing better with full cover and softer snow over a firm base.

So, what to do..head into the woods, of course. The woods off of Rumble were outrageous. I can't believe the difference. Tons of soft snow. Skied the woods off Castlerock trail too and some others. Oh and the Castlerock chair was ski on all day long!

imo, for the best natural snow, anything with high elevation in Northern Vermont and Maine.

At Sunday River last Saturday, I was pretty surprised at the lack of snow. The only reason it was OK was because of the incredible amounts of snow they made up there. Otherwise, hard pack or thin cover. From what I've seen online, I think VT is better off than Maine right now. Maine hasn't really been getting those little 2"+ daily storms that VT has. One sure thing is that Maine (and more obviously NH) desperately need snow ASAP.

Mount Snow has been sporting what I would call "typical busy weekend" crowds. The high speed quads have roughly 10 minute lines for much of the day. The Northface has 5 or so minute lines much of the day, and the "secondary" lifts are pretty darn close to ski on. The lodges are full, but with over 400 acres of open terrain, when heading downhill most of the mountain is quite reasonable crowd wise IMHO.

Great day at Bolton today. Snowing all day...probably picked up a couple of inches. Skied with my girls...so couldn't really check out the goods. Looks like they have a ton of fun woods....plus from what I understand there are a few ton more that are out of sight. Cold wind blowing most of the day...so with my girls, we stayed low on the timberline lift a lot. Place was pretty much ski on all day....the lack of lines were really nice and a bit unexpected given that it is President's weekend. We got a table right away at lunch too. The steeper runs had some nice soft snow over a firm base. The lower angled cruisers were quite nice and soft.

Bolton is a really fun place. My brother knows someone who works there, but due to this being a Holiday period, she were unable to help us out. So Liftopia saved us $15 a ticket and they let kids under 6 ski free. (my little one has 3 more years of skiing free there!) My neices ski there frequently and have some deal where they get half off tix.
