is there a preferred route for this? My GPS put me on some muddy, slippery road for 10 miles before getting on 30 yesterday.

If you are heading to Stratton from Long Island you may want to consider changing your route all together and take the Taconic and then head east. Unless you are taking the Ferry this will cut 40+ minutes off your drive. the full route is Taconic to Rte 295 East to Rte 22 North to Rte 7 East to VT 279 North( Bennington Bypass) to VT 7 North to Exit 4 (Rte 11 East) to 30. There are no real traffic issues.

I make it to Magic from Lower Westchester in 3 H 15 minutes that way. If I take 91 its a solid 4 hours.

Don't go through downtown Brat...it's a PITA. Take a left off the 91 Exit and head east on 9. You'll see Spruce and Cedar streets on your left a bit down the road. Take either one. It'll put you on 30, just North of the Brattleboro Retreat. Plus, you get to drive past the ski jump.

Do the same going home...hard right onto Cedar off of 30...just past the Grafton Village Cheese Store.

Wow . . . no mention of dropping off a case a beer in Dummerston as a short-cut . . . I'm very impressed

If you're going straight to day parking from I-91, it's quicker to get off Route 30 in Jamacia and go to the Sun Bowl lot. Even as a kid in the first half of the 1970's before it was paved, that was the quickest way to the mountain.

my advice would be to go up to exit 6, take 103 to 11 east and turn left at magic.

I was going to say Cedar Street, but I wanted to give them the scenic tour of Brattelboro. Harris Hill is a classic! http://harrishillskijump.org/ - cool video

I still don't think most of that road is paved! He may not make it to the mountain if he takes a wrong turn back in there! That's still the way we go whenever we do Stratton!

LMAO! I left that part out! All beer can be stashed somewhere on the covered bridge. I'd advise leaving it on the east side though...most people stop and pose for pics on the west side.

thanks for all of the replies, this site is great. I know about the Taconic, that's how my buddy goes, but I have commercial plates.
