People desperately wanted ASC out of town at the end of their run, now its Powdr that's public enemy number one in many eyes. So what's next? There always seems to be a laundry list of what killingtons management does wrong. in this particular case, this year, its not hard to understand the anger. You dont pump yourself up all season to be something you're not. But, on the flip side, they did make it as far as any resort in new england that's actually accessible. sorry, Jay and SL aren't day trips for the majority of even hardcore skiers. I'm curious, morbidly curious, to see how this plays out.

I keep hearing a voice in my head say "Hey, watch this!" as in this won't end well.

Killington devises a scheme to kidnap Sugarbush, in order to steal Sugarbush's insult-preventing goo and use it for itself, only to be beaten to the punch by Okemo, who's wired all of MRV to blow up if Sugarbush isn't handed over?

It will end neither badly nor well because it will never end.

Look at how many K threads there are! It's become the offseason's evil spawn.

Boo!

I still don't get the anger. K does a good job (OK, maybe not the best PR campaign idea) and this season was weird anyway.

Mention skiing in the east and K dominates alot of the conversation.

I didnt mean this thread or any thread for that matter. I meant Powdr's ownership of killington. Either the anger on skiing forums, facebook, amongst the locals etc goes unheard and dies and Powdr runs killington like every other ski resort in new england or Powdr sells, there is a new owner and hopefully a new bunch of shit to bitch about online....

Powdr is going to refund 1/26th of every season passholders payment and 1/6th of every spring passholders payment for this year and then charge them more next year when they under promise and over deliver

I still don't get the anger.

It's simple - nobody wants to give up anything they had..

Part of someones decision to drive 5 hours to KMart includes length of season... If you started there in the early 90's - you don't get as many ski days...

You get a rental house until mid-May and the joint closes down - your pissed..

it is pretty crazy that there is a 20 page thread going about killington closing with superstar still being skiable and sugarloaf is going to close with much more snow and nobody is upset about it.

Sugarloaf never promised anything more nor did it let its customers think that.

Boyne pass holders could ski in October through May. Why would they complain?

The loaf will have less people than Killington at it this weekend, but will be open for its pass holders this week and next.

That is just about 6 weeks more skiing with a Boyne pass this year.. Works both ways patrons are happy because Boyne stays open and it helps sell passes.

Oct to May looks better than Nov to april. They can say Open for Halloween, Turkey day and May day., K can't say that to any of those days.
I would love a couple more weeks though.

customer service 101

Don't over promise and the under deliver.

Sugarloaf didn't say they were going to be open throuogh 5/2 until last weekend. That announcement came after a well below average attendance reggea weekend, their typical economic shot in the arm for the spring season. Killington said on 4/18 they'd be open through 5/2, then on 4/20 announce they're not. I believe Sugarloaf also didn't sell a spring pass, something Killington did and touted as being open through 5/2.

In my professional life, which has always been in positions of customer service, I always under promise. If things work out and I over deliver, I look like a hero. If they don't, then no one is pissed. People would still be pissed at K for closing in April no matter what because of their long history of offering May skiing. Far fewer would though had Killington handled the situation better with their marketing/communications.

That was Hunter's mistake... They usually don't promise.. They said they'd be open later then they did... Pissed people off.. But those days of 85 degree weather were outta control

The other reality of this event is that so many of the people that are whining the loudest now will end up next season with either a K pass on their jackets or multiple K single day lift tickets on their jackets by seasons end.

Some may be because of real estate interest there, some from having already bought their passes for next season prior to the announcement, some just because they choose not to express their displeasure with the Powdr folks in an economic way

Hunter closed due to snow and maybe some improvements is what I have 2nd hand,. No one likes to see a place close. Frustration at both places, but not the same reasons. Dmc bud rock on.

very true. got the NYC market that doesn't have a lot of other options with the quality of expert terrain as K does within the same drive. I'm sure the lionshare of their lost business over the past few years has been from Boston. Boston folks have the option of getting to Sugarbush/Stowe/Sunday River all roughly only a half hour furthur drive. NYC can do Sugarbush in a bit over an hour more, but there's the missing night life in the MRV.

oh well. I'm pumped to ski Superstar on Sunday. Can't do the following due to family obligations. If someone spins a lift on 5/8-9, I'll try and make it.
