Its not the economy...its the lack of snow. The economy was just as bad last year and they had a record season....difference is the snow...Or lack thereof.

I think the lack of snow on the ground is a negative too; all the snow in my area in NE MA is now gone for the most part (with the exception of small snow banks of course). The lack of snow = people are more willing to stay home. But seeing better turnouts in worse conditions in years prior even when considering pricing as not everything has gone up vs last year = the economy has to be a factor. Heck, even BSSC usually sells out almost all their bus trips and I've been checking over there as I bought their voucher deal. This Sunday's Killington trip still has room (and they will post if there is limited walk on space available); yet, there were two daily voucher deals over there vs one years prior. Wouldn't be surprised the only reason their keeping their volumes up is by voucher redemption (and in this case they are handing out a year's membership for free that normally retails for $70 and they still have to pay the daily deal site their take).

I dont want to ski MRG on man made...Plenty of other places to do that.

Wouldn't want to ski MRG weekends to wait in line for potentially an hour for just one run. And even though I'm a skier, I'm largely kept away from the resort because of the snowboard ban.

One run at MRG is like two runs any other place...but again I only ski it midweek.

Have you ever skied MRG on a weekend? I don't know if I've ever waited one hour. 40 minutes on a powder day, maybe. Twenty minutes is much more normal. First few runs are usually ski on to a few minutes. Shorter line for the double as well.

You really should change the title of this post! Or do everybody in the valley a favor and stay away...

40 mins on a powder day is kind of long for me, Riv. I love MRG. It's probably my favorite mountain in the East. With that said, I think I would tend to ski the 'Bush on a busy weekend. (Esp. Saturday). I can get lost in the woods next door at the bush and there is plenty to keep me interested there....while I wait a day for the crowds to dissipate from MRG and ski there the next day without anyone else.

Just to clarify, I was saying that is the longest I have waited by my own internal clock. I have had plenty of weekend powder days at MRG that had under 10 minute lines for the Single. As always, there are so many factors. The point I am trying to make is that many people think the only time it is worth while to ski MRG is mid-week powder days and I think that perception is based on lack of experience.

marcski... you are right that it is probably better to be somewhere else if the line backs up to 40 minutes. But I find that is pretty rare even on weekend powder days and, as I noted above, you can usually get two ski on chairs if you get there for first chair and then you get another two runs before the line backs up then you just hop onto the Double.

I bet the lines yesterday were really long because everyone is powder starved and the storm was well publicized. There are many localized sleeper mini-dumps during mid-season that don't result in huge crowds.

Exactly. In a good year, a few 6 inch'ish pops on consecutive days wouldnt grab nearly as much attention. But because there's been no snow storms, it became a major story.

Doesn't look crowded today. Just looked at the web cam & there are empty chairs going up on the single.

With wind chill it's in the negative teens. That's more than a lot of people wish to endure.

mrg not worth spending 5 mins in line let alone 40...

They wont let me snowbooooooarrrddd at Mahd Wiver Gwen.... Wah!!!!, huh, huh, huh, huh-Waaaaahhhhh!!! (sniffle, sniffle, cry, whimper)

How many years could MRG endure where they dont open until mid January?

The title is spot on. You all give reach arounds talking about the place but sometimes it just plain sucks. Like this year. Get over it.
