Hey All,
I'm back from a fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I was a little tired when I got out of work because I helped set 4 large monuments in the mud. I wasn't as amped as normal due to the expected holiday crowds but then I decided to just try and blend in with the gapers. It wasn't easy but I did what I could. I pulled into the lower lot at 3:30PM blasting Track 10 of my Shop Boyz CD. I scored the 2nd best parking spot. The lower lot was about half full and I could see about 25 people on the falls. Above the falls was pea soup fog. Temperatures were in the upper 30s. I didn't rock the I-pod which allowed me to fully take in the Holiday Atmosphere.
I carried my skis like a guitar to try and blend in. When I got on the 6-pack after maybe a 1 minute wait, I asked,"Does this go to the top"..The one snowboard kid said it did and told me where there were some cool jumps on the side of Lazy Mile. Mad Steezy..As much as I wanted to blend in, I just couldn't when I hit Barneys bumps which were so sa weet...fast and soft..mmmmm. I skied those bumps 4 times throughout my session. It was my refuge as nobody was bothering to attack the bumps on their 205 Volants or snowlerblades. On another lift ride I met a guy from East Brunswick NJ who chose Blue over Hunter and Windham and was presently surprised by the lack of crowds.
Crowds were lighter than a typically holiday week due to the soggy weather. With the quad running as well..lift lines were incredibly short and sometimes non-existant. Paradise was sweet but there were red-coats by all the slow signs so I stuck with slow and deliberate turns. Lazy Mile was kind of a zoo...Challenge was empty for good reason..It was a mess and there are holes on the right upper 1/3 of the trail..like Watermellon sized deep divots. The middle section was pretty icy and the Falls had deep crud..mad applesauce mixed with sand. I heard friends argue over which lodge had better food, saw 15 year old kids drinking beer, and the Asian Invasian was out in full force although not skiing the bumps at all. I skied for 2 hours for a total of 11 runs. 6 off the quad and 5 off the Pack..Ot was nice skiing Skytop and lower Sidewinder for the first time this season. There was quite a backup of cars on the way to Blue when I was driving home. On the way back I rocked out to some Swiss Beatz and stopped at Weis market for some seafood and Nacho makings. Time to eat..as the cookie monster would say...num num num..
