It's just not natural. Makes me kind of worried. Not about this ski season, but on the general change in weather patterns.

It's 55F right now at home and I am taking advantage of it too take down the last of my Christmas lights. Yesterday it was 61F and I droe home with the window down.

It's plenty cold in Eastern Europe and Russia. In Moscow they have had brutally cold weather with nighttime temps down below -20F and the coldest weather since 1979.

three feet of snow the last week in october wasn't natural either. isolated incidents can never account for the developing of a weather pattern. however, climate change has been accurately documented. not taking anything away from the fact that the earth's climate is changing, but just saying an isolated 50 degree day in january isn't a sure sign of it. january thaws are typical, but the extended legnth and complete destruction of the snow pack isn't.

Well things are generally a bit warmer down here, so I guess I'm sensitive to it.

Here is this month's weather history where I am. See all those days in the 50's? Not natural, I tell ya!

Edit: Wow .... Looks like the end of January is going to be warm for you as well, Steve. When will your arm be all ready for skiing again?

Sorry to hear that, Steve. Yeah, I lost a lot of muscle use in my shoulder as well. I find out Monday if I need surgery or Physical Therapy and when I can get back out. I'm actually really nervous about getting back out there. I'm going to have some confidence issues for sure, but I'll make a thread for that hurdle soon enough. It's a bit embarrassing.
Looks like we're the only two around today. Warming up those bar stools while everyone else skis. :(

Sorry to hijack the thread ... now back to the Temperature!

Here is the latest snowcover map that I could find for New England:

sd1_today.jpg

According to NOAA, the national average snowpack in Decemder was 44.8% and the national average right now is 33.5%.

ALOT of the snowcover in Northwestern Maine has been packed down by the recent rains and is ice covered. This is according the the maine snowmobile conditions that I have read.

I feel really badly for the people that depend on the snowmobiler's for income, they must really be hurting this season, unlike ski resorts they must depend on mother nature.

Just as strange days and months can't be accurate tells of global climatic change neither entire seasons.

I still like my idea of developing a radiation resisting treatment for humans and animals and plants and then settin' off an H bomb over Troy (we don't need that city anyway). Nuclear winters baby! We'd have more powder than Utah!

Current North America snowcover map:

cursnow_usa.gif

Large parts of the Northeast, Mid Atlantic and Mid-West are devoid of snowcover from a normal point at this time of year.

it's the friggin' jet stream. It's running at a honkin' 160mph above us, like a vacuum cleaner, sucking up warm southerly air from Mexico and So. Cal and shooting it up by us. We gotta fix that.

Who's gonna get a whole honkin freighter full of snow guns, put em' all in Minnesota and point them eastward. We gotta get this jet stream fixed, fast.
