A lot of Kmart aficionados have stated here that they may quit on the place because of what they perceive as changes that will have a regretful effect on the overall experience there. Anyways where might you guys go instead?

Also, anyone else contemplating a change in there ski area routine and if so how come and where will you go instead?

Most likely not WF/Gore...

I'm going to buy a pass to K this year, if they do a decent job, I'll probably stay. If they don't, I'm planning on making some more visits to other mountains I would consider...Sugarbush, MRG, Magic and possibly SR.

Other than that, I'm planning on spending more of my day trips at Sno Mtn, instead of Mountain Creek and some of the other PA areas, since I like the new management's direction, and it's got some great terrain for PA.

I will be back at Killington/Pico this season with Ms. TB. However, I am on forced sabbatical from Burke (or exile...). So I am looking for a replacement and some options are on the table....just waiting to see how things shake out.

As for the sabbatical, I was really  at first as to the circumstances, but things happen...now I am :D about the prospect of getting back to another area or going somewhere else. Just too many options  I am going to really miss the Dawn Patrol at Burke...they made it so much fun. They were family to me. I will ski with them when I can...

Two years ago, I changed my home area from Cannon to Jay despite still living closer to Cannon. Now I will be significantly closer to Cannon but am decidedly not changing back. Will definitely get to Cannon a dozen or so times this year but Jay is still going to be my home. Other than more days at Cannon (mostly early and late season likely), no other changes as I will still have a Mad Card. Will likely make Cardigan my local "earned turns" home mountain since it is just down the road though the Moose is just as close so that is an option too. I think that will be essentially the major change: I will be closer to earned turn skiing so will likely head that way more often than last season which was slanted heavily towards lift serviced.

I never really liked Killington, anyway, so I don't really care what changes they make, and I'm not really upset that people are planningon going somewhere else, since I don't ski in Vermont very often, either.

Killington's overall impact on my skiing: 0.

Carry on.

I'm glad you've found some positives out of what seemed to be a pretty angering experience for you. Yes, it seems you have a few good options to select from. Good luck. (Triple Major. Triple Major. Triple Major.)

Status quo for me this season. Again, I plan to score a new mountain in Whiteface and want to return to Gore.

I skied primarily at K last year. This year Sneaux, Magic, and Pat's primarily. Will hopefully get to explore a few new mts as well.

I think its a positive thing that some K-Mart skiers are going to branch out this season - there's a lot of great stuff all over New England!

I have not been skiing very much at Killington since ASC bought it and reduced the length of the season. My last June day at Killington was in 1995 and my last October day was in 1998 and since 80% of my skiing at Killington was in October/November and April/May I have no reason to go back. This season we only skied at Killington 3 times, and once was after they had closed for the season.

Next season we may get the Sugarloaf/Sunday River pass, since we got in 13 days at both resorts last season, we would probably do well with them and I like the direction that Boyne seems to have taken just out of the starting gate with a reasonably priced pass and the promise to improve facilities at each mountain in the future.

Other than that we might explore some new places in New Hampshire that we have not been to like Crotched, Ragged and perhaps Tenney if they reopen.

Yes, it was not a pleasant surprise at all. But after the situation was publicized, I got some folks stepping up to help out. Very classy.

Did you already post what the situation was that resulted in your parting ways with Burke?
(Of course I would completely understand if it is something you don't want to share on the board.)

Whats up roark... Magic ha? I have been reading about it, eyeing it and been hearing what an awesome place it is, when there is snow. Ping me one of the times you plan on heading to Magic - would love to check it out and ski with you.

Long story short: a full-time law student is no longer a "student" for a season pass, so when contacted, the representative said that despite what I had done to help them out, there was no exception. Price for me this season: $525 for a season he said.

I contacted the representative, at his request, several times to speak with him and he has not yet returned my calls or E-mails. So it appears that they don't want my business.

Amount of money Burke will get from me this season if nothing changes: $0. Number of referrals: 0.

And for the record: they are the only resort in VT/NH I could find that had such a restriction. The only other resort with an age limit for student passes was Okemo, at 28 years old. Burke thinks that if you turn 24 you are not a "student" anymore.

And this rule also cuts out folks in the GI Bill who are starting college later....

So I am looking for a new place. Lots of help from folks here and in the industry. Really appreciate it.

Thanks for the quick summary. Surprising indeed - the one time I skied there during the AZ summit everyone was very nice and helpful - a family atmosphere - and then they go and do you like that. Not cool.

I guess it is an opportunity to expand your horizons. Have you looked into Denton, PA?

Had a pass last year and will this year as well, hope to use it a bit more. If they follow through on their increased snowmaking plans it should help a lot... I'm salivating at the thought of a nice base underneath the fresh stuff when they get a dump.
I expect I'll be either there or Snow most weekends... if the weather cooperates mostly Magic.
