So it could be that I'm wildly paranoid. Well actually, that's a given. But enough about that.

I was skiing by myself at Wachusett last night, and it being school vacation, there were lots of kids there. On more than one occasion, I saw kids that had to be under 10 years old, in groups of two or three, skiing and riding the lift alone.

I intentionally avoided riding on a chair alone with only one, two or three other kids. All kinds of things were running through my mind, but I knew there wasn't any way in hell I was going to take the risk of sitting alone on a lift chair in the dark with these minors. I know it's probably very implausible that a minor of that age would fabricate something like this, but you never know in this day and age how you might be the target of a witch hunt. I decided waiting a chair, and pissing people off in the process, was worth it to mitigate the risk.

Unfounded paranoia or sad commentary on the state of today's society? Anyone else that skis alone ever had these thoughts?

And what kind of parent is letting their two 7 - 8 year olds ski at Wachusett alone? It's not exactly Killington or Sunday River, but still?? WTF?

No...I ride the lift with whoever I'm grouped with...At Blue mountain on the 6-pack..the liftline organizer..puts a group of 3 with a group of 2 with a single..You have no choice who you will ride with. It's fun riding the lifts with little kids because they're enthusiastic about the sport and don't bitch about icy and slushy conditions. It's also funny how young the kids today use swear words..I guess they get it from South Park..

I do feel kinda self conscious when I have to take my 4 yr old daughter to the bathroom in public locations.

My older daughter's awesome. Anytime we go into the men's room, she yells out, "pew.....it stinks in here..."

In HS the swim coach used to always pat the kids(boys and girls) on the butt after a good performance or as an "atta boy" kind of thing. He'd probably be hauled off now.

I can't believe someone hasn't gone retro active alter boy on him yet already and got him thrown in the slammer. I don't even look in the direction of the kids in the lift line.

Ok, so what if I've got my mp3 player out and I'm trying to change songs and it slips out of my hands, or I start to lose a glove or something that causes hand to little kid contact? Any number of things could happen and look suspicious without a total fabrication.

BUT do you have ANY character witnesses that would describe you as "honorable, courageous and virtuous"????

I got on a lift with two kids split up from a group lesson. Neither could be over 3-foot tall. We get just about to the unload ramp, like 3 feet short, the bar is up, and SLAM! the lift stops and the chair lurches backwards. These two tykes are trying to standup and are starting to slide straight down. I swung my arm around and grabbed them, and somehow pushed them backup onto the chair. The kids didn't say a word.

When I got to the bottom, I was expecting, like Arlo Guthrie, either to given an award for heroism or arrested. I got neither. I'll bet the parents were clueless - oh billy he's safe in his lesson....

Apparently, our daughter thinks it's "awesome."

My daughter likes to go to public restrooms too. She fakes needing to go just so we can do it. I try to make wife do it whenever possible, due to the general nastiness of mens rooms, but sometimes there just is no choice.

As far as I know it never went beyond that. And it was the 80's that kind of stuff was still accepted.

We had the same sort of thing, only it was the only female custodian. She had to check that we all showered after gym class, so we even had to wait in line sometimes til that was cleared up. If you didn't shower, you didn't pass.

God, I hope they don't do that anymore. ::shudder::

I never had to take a shower after gym in middle or high school. In fact the showers were used for storage.
