Anyone on these skis? My Hotrods are a few seasons old and I'm getting the itch for something new. The AC50's seems like they'll fit the bill nicely. Thinking of going with leftovers from last season.

i have not skied the AC50 but did have 724s before my hotrods. found this review, the last line summed it up for me when i think of my volkls compared to my nordicas

This perennial test medalist delivers once again with unparalleled stability, edge grip, and power. Built for strong experts who like to trench aggressive GS turns, the AC50 is the benchmark for groomer-oriented, all-mountain skis. “So stable and smooth into the turn, even at breakneck speed,” said one tester. No rocker funny business here. Traditional camber makes for immediate, hyperresponsive tip initiation and strong finishes that rocket the rider across the hill. Throw ’em as far out as you want—they’ll never wander. Milquetoasts, beware: The AC50 wants to run with the alpha dogs.

No rocker funny business here. :-D

That sounds about right. I'm looking for a good "trencher" ski.

I rented these in UT (actually they were my second pair of rentals after the first ones were stolen :-(). They were good for smashing through UT power crud and bumps but were a bit burly and unforgiving for my liking. With the proper driver these would make a good East Coast all-mountain ski.

I almost want to try them before buying....but I've yet to ever do that with skis. And I've never been disapointed.

Similar ski with a bit more off piste capability is what I just picked up; Fischer Motive 84

just another option worth taking a look at

I'm open to any options, so feel free to post em' up. The only thing I'm no too keen on: Rocker. Demo'd some K2's last season and they just didn't work for me.

Check out the Progressor 10. That will carve some serious trenches and has the switch on the binding like the Motive to lighten it up a bit if it's cruddy or starts to snow on you.

Not a fan of the AC50 at all...unless you have an extra long cranium or your knuckles are dragging. I suggest the Blizzard Mag 8.7..it is a Volkl AC50 with a personality.

skied them for two seasons and loved them. they like to go fast, hold well and are great for an east coast all mountain ski. they're not bump skis but did fine the few times I found a good line. they are great in the crud. they were also great in any recreational race course.

moved to kendo last season. more in common with a race ski.

Whoa...am I ever late.
Local shop had a pair of AC50s in 09/10....agree, it was Volkl-esk burly. Would do the job...but what it would demand, energy-wise from skier = ? Obviously Volkls have fans and non-fans.
Seems like there are quite a few options out there...to demo them all would take a whole season..lol.
