I was a member for a couple of years. Only reason I didn't renew is I became a full-time instructor in NY so I almost never get to Vt. any more.

I have nothing but great things to say about the club. Good houses, great people. Very big social element if you want that, but if you just want to join to use the houses and get the discounts, that's okay, too. The people who run the clubs and the houses in particular do a great job of keeping things neat and organized. There is a strong sense of community -- there are many second-generation members, maybe even some third-generation ones -- and this means the properties stay in pretty good shape.

Note the houses are mostly dorm-style sleeping arrangements, with each having a small number of smaller, semi-private rooms as well. Unless they have changed things in the past couple of years, sleeping arrangements are first-come, first-serve.

Because the club owns its houses, they're available for member use all year. You can also rent an entire house per-night in the off season if you have a group. They have volunteer work days on the off season which can be fun and earn you free days.

Can't beat the location for the Mount Ellen house. The Brattleboro house is near the diner in West Brattleboro, so it's about 10 minutes to town and a half-hour to Mt. Snow.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. If I can't answer, I can connect you to a long-time board member/membership director who can.

I am

I am a member of the Sterling Ski Club. If you live in CT, you absolutely should join a ski club so you can be a member of the Connecticut Ski Council (CSC). CSC = Huge discounts on Awareness Days! Sterling happens to be close for me so I joined there. The people are cool and, as George stated, there is a strong sense of community in the group. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

thanks guys. i've got a bunch of questions rambling around my head, will try to put together a coherent list. i'm actually already in a CSC club (for a whopping $15/family) but the thought of a house in VT is attractive.

I am a member, absolutely awesome club, although I attend UVM and get AMAZING discounts aka $310 season pass to sugarbush, the houses are great. people are awesome and very friendly, people don't realize the money they can save and the fun they can have when they join Sterling Ski Club.

my son has applied to UVM and i told him if he goes there i would join the club and we could meet up EVERY WEEKEND for skiing. For some reason he didn't think that was a great idea.

Maybe he wants you to stay in the dorm?

i proposed that once too. i told him if he'd let me crash on his couch on the night before a storm that i'd buy him breakfast and a lift ticket. Again, not something he seemed thrilled with.

I don't know how Sterling SC works but in my club (Telemark SC) members have preference over guests up until Mon. night before the weekend. Each member is entitled to have one guest that would have preference also. On major holiday weekends there's usually a cut off date a few weeks before the holiday that has to be paid in advance. Most weekends the house is either filled or pretty close to it (our house sleeps 50). During non holiday weekdays when I ski I usually either have the house to myself or with only a few others. We are located 20 minutes from Killington/Pico. It's about an hour drive north to the MRV or south to Bromley, Magic, Stratton. Okemo is about 40 minutes away.
