Are the Catskills even worth it at this point?

Thinking about taking Tuesday, April 2 off for one last day skiing. Coming up from NW NJ and wondering if Belleayre, Hunter or Windham is even worth the 2+ hour drive. I skied Hunter last year on 4/9 and it was OK.

Windham looks like half the mountain is closed though. Am I better off at Hunter or Belleayre then? Never skied Belleayre...

Any thoughts from the locals?

I can't speak for Bellayre... But Hunter's still kickin ass... Pleanty of snow left still lots of trails open.. Bellayre is probably the same..

Tickets are cheap now with reduced rates of $30.00 during the mid-week and $35.00 on the weekend.

Yes the Catskills are worth it but I would get their at 8:00am for an early 8:30am start. The best skiing is in the morning. Belleayre, Hunter, and Windham have lots of snow.

I can't imagine any of the resorts will have any lift lines. The weather is great, lots of snow, and no lift lines.

Check out Hunter's 06-07 Value Pass http://www.huntermtn.com/valuepass.html
Next years 06-07 value pass can be used this April even on weekends.

If you go to Belleayre park over by the Tomahawk lift since Lift 7 is down for the season. Intermediate Deer Run trails off the top of the Tomahawk has plenty of snow as well as Dot Nebel, Seneca, and a lot more trails. The Tomahawk lift parking lot is the best way to get a quick start in the morning at Belleayre. Belleayre late season rates at $35 on weekends. See Belleayre's hotel packages
http://www.belleayre.com/winter/package.htm

Great time of year to ski

Hunter had a few inches of fresh on Sat AM too...mixed in nicely with the frozen granular.
The snow was actually a little firm at the summit all day, but once off the top the snow got very mushy as the day progressed.

Loafer, your pictures aren't helping my depressed mood...

Sorry about that, I guess this picture will not help:

I was totally not expecting a powder day, but it just happened that way. I am debating if I should wash my car to remove all the salt and mud from driving up to Belleayre. If I do this I am making certain that another dump will occur!!!

Thanks, I'm going to go back into the enviromental chamber here at work now. At least I saw some frost flying around in there when I climbed in at -40 last night...

I had frost on my car this morning at 27F so all hope is not lost yet for more snowfall this spring., though I did take out my tractor yesterday and my lawn is getting fertilized today.:x

I heard that 70F weather is in the forecast past April 5th or so:angry:

It is strange that everyone is just discovering that saturday was a powder day at Belleayre, I thought I was going to get lynched by some AZ'ers for posting a powder report:-o

I have to work the next two weekends, so I have no doubt that it will dump somewhere in the Northeast:???:

Belleayre, as you can see by the photos, was great on Saturday. No bare spots between the bumps or anything like that yet. Might be a different story after a couple of days of 60* weather.

Cool aerial picture of Hunter Mtn taken on March 25th:

Hunter.jpg

I should probably send Hunter an e-mail if they mismarked this pic, and sorry to be picky, but that shot was definitely taken before 3/25.

I was there on 3/23 and the bump course on Eisenhower had been mowed down on the night of the 22nd. Eisenhower is the trail in the right middle of the photo, half groomed and half bumped. So that shot isn't from 3/25.

I'm guessing that shot was taken the weekend of 3/18.
