BARTLETT, NH — Officially starting the Mount Washington Valley ski and snowboard season, Attitash Resort will open to the public early next week. The resort's snowmaking system will allow for skier and riders to enjoy terrain from the top of the Flying Yankee High-Speed Quad with more trails to follow in the coming days.

The exact date of opening will be dictated by the quality of the on-mountain product as Attitash is committed to opening with a deep base of snow to ensure a positive guest experience. Skiers and riders are urged to stay tuned to www.attitash.com or the 24-hour toll-free Snowphone at (877) 677-SNOW for the latest opening day updates.

"Wax em' up folks," said Tom Chasse, Attitash's managing director. "This is always an exciting time of year. With all of the upgrades around the resort like new signs, increased snowmaking power, and the re-branding centered around guest service, the vibe is very positive."

The revised opening date is reflective of a brief weather setback that is forecast to arrive in the region around Thanksgiving Day. After the front passes, colder air will filter in allowing for snowmakers to fire away around the clock adding to the snow base laid down earlier in the week.

Guests looking to kick off their ski and ride season can take advantage of a midweek First Tracks Ski and Stay package from $69 per person per night, which includes lift tickets and lodging at the Grand Summit Resort Hotel and Conference Center. Guests may call (800) 223-7669 or visit www.attitash.com for more details or to make a reservation.

Opening day guests can expect at least four open trails comprising one route down from the top of the Flying Yankee High-Speed Quad. Top to bottom terrain off the Summit Triple is next on the expansion plan. The lift will turn at 9 a.m. and opening day ticket rates will be $25/adults, $20/young adults, and $15/Jr-Sr.

The upcoming opening kicks off Attitash's 40th Anniversary season, which will be commemorated by the 40 days and 40 nights of Attitash beginning on Founder's Day, Jan. 28, 2005. Guests can expect 40 days and nights of events, ticket deals and themed parties culminating on the weekend of March 5-6 with the All-Star Aerial Show complete with fireworks.

More information is available on the company's website, www.attitash.com.

BW is west of Crawford Notch, which in my books places them outside of the MWV.
