I'm thinking about heading to Black Mountain in MWV, not sure how crowded they will be or if they lost alot with the rain yesterday, it's about 2 1/2 hrs for me so if anyone has suggestions on a better place with less crowds and decent lift ticket rates I'd appreciate it
thanks

I went with intentions of skiing there today, but they were closed. I'm sure they'll be open on Wednesday and from the look up from the parking lot, it didn't appear they lost much coverage in the storm. My only concern would be there grooming. I don't know how adept they are at handling freeze/thaw events.

I would call ahead for an assessment. Black is closed Christmas day, I know that from speaking with the folks. With that in mind, I only saw one 'cat on the premises, which suggests it will take time to groom everything. I'd specifically ask about grooming. I also didn't see a large quantity of snowmaking equipment. Bottom line, I think their recovery will be slower than the big boys. You should check around and compare.

was just thinking about crotched, and it's an hour closer, how do you think lift lines will be? I'm gonna be out fri too so maybe that would be a better day for black, and slight chance for some snow in between too

...

I got in a few+ hours @Sunday River today...just a remarkably bright, gorgeous day....and very close to pp...any ice is pretty thin and can be sliced with a little traffic.(imo) I think only northern NewEngland's woods/trees have escaped the rain a bit...but only VT had the deep natural to start with....other than that, the River and Sugarloaf should be terrific pp. They'll be blowing snow full tilt and there's no melting above lattitude of Concord, NH...and Maine gets less of a crowd in comparison to other NE states. Sugarbush and MRG should be nice as well...imo...(really envious of anyone who caught first chair @Bush last Friday)

My take is that this coming week is going to closely resemble " spring conditions". with mild days and overnight freezing, allowing the grooming and snowmaking crews do their stuff..... offering fast/ firm groomed courduroy in the early AM, with softening snow as the day goes on.

For a prime time vacation week, with multi-ability level families, there should be something for almost everyone, pretty much everywhere.

For hard-core pow-hounds, the vacation week is usually an aggravation anyway, so what if the epic December pow is down for the count. You'll be able to ski with the kids, they'll be happy and comfortable, having fun. Thats not an awful forecast !!!!!!!!

No one is going to see any frostbite warnings this week, another huge plus.

Epic December pow was great, a blessing all around. Huge stoke for the season, great fun while it lasted, and now it ages itself ( NOT SO) gracefully into base depth stats.

Groomed trails, "spring conditions", warm days, cold nights and the NWS " CHANCE SNOW" pretty much all week should spread some smiles.

Monday was a transition event, totally weather driven, with a nasty timing fuse.

The season goes forward!

Freebie,

I took a look at Black on Monday. It looked t as if they had retained a fair portion of the natural snow. This however is just looking up from the base. As someone stated before the conditions will be dependent on their ability to get out there and do some grooming. It's worth a shot, can't speak to crowds there, I've not been there during this particular week before.
