...You know it!!

In the Cannon/Loon area, the Woodstock Inn Station Brewery can be a lot of fun.....

1+
..and their bottom line turkey dinners are pretty hot too!
Ditto as well on the Matterhorn...(BobR). Enjoy the bar staff occasionally having the Weather Channel on....listening to the Atlanta staff predicting the increasing chance of that horrendous 1"-2" accumulation overnight!...

I really like the Silver Dollar Bar at the Wort Hotel in Jackson Wy. It's a little touristy but the food is good and there is a great drink selection. There are coat hooks under the bar which I didn't realize till my 4th visit there. Whether solo or with friends..it's a good place to go and lots of live music. A good place for locals and tourists.

Right where I want to be
I heard good things about the Silver Dollar Bar but it did seem a little touristy like you said. There was a wait while we were in Jackson so we didn't go. I did however go to Merry Piglets Mexican Grill which is more of a food place but we sat at the small bar and everytime they made a margarita for someone at a table and there was extra the bartender filled up our glasses. The bottomless glass! yeehaw!

Here's a theory:

The higher the percentage of bad skiers at the mountain, the better the bar.

Good bars at Killington, lots of bad skiers.
Good bars at Aspen, lots of bad skiers.
Great bars in Whistler, lots of bad skiers (and snowboarders).

Now, keep in mind that I'm not saying there aren't a lot of good skiers at these mountains (obviously, there are), just that the ratio of of Bad Skiers to Good Skiers is higher than, say, Jay Peak, Big Sky, or Kirkwood.

Whistler does 2 million skier visits. Killington is the largest ski area in the east. Aspen has all the people from Snowmass in town every night so it also gets lots of people. Jay, Big Sky, and Kirkwood are off the beaten track with low skier visits. Most skiers drink. It's been that way since bear trap bindings and lace boots. The ski areas with the big skier visits have the volume to support a lot of apres ski.

With the dropoff in skier visits at Killington, I'd expect a decline in the bar scene. There's a rumor floating around that the Wobbly Barn is only going to operate on weekends. There's another rumor that Charity's is in financial trouble.

I'd say the overall skill level at Whistler is very high. It has some of the best terrain in North America and draws destination business that's loaded with advanced skiers just like Snowbird and Jackson Hole. Canadians tend to be much more fit than their grain-fed Americans to the south and the Vancouver drive-to population has local feeder hills 20 minutes out of the city so people are on skis from a young age.

The locals bar in JH when I lived out there was the Calico on the Teton Village Rd. Great food, pool and darts. On Sunday night it's the Stagecoach in Wilson. The tourons go to the Mangy Moose, Silver Dollar and the Rancher. At least no one mentioned the Cowboy

The Rancher is no more..it got spruced up and it's now called The Town Square Tavern..they have live poker games in the back $1/$2 blinds and minimum $40 buy-in..I lost $150 in 20 minutes..lol..doh..

I've never been to the Stagecoach or Calico because I stay in town..the wine bar at Nani's genuine Pasta is pretty good and the sushi bar at Shogun sushi is good..
