The number of times I heard 'yard sale' coming from the lift above me last year as I was falling all over 10th (first full season of skiing last year) were too many to count...

It was funny though, and I don't fall much on that trail anymore (or at least, I didn't at the end of last season, haven't made it to Wa this year yet).

the peanut gallery up above can be brutal and funny..... they step it up a notch when you do the yard sale in the mogul section.

Good training tho, its getting to a point where I can tune them out and really can't remember what they are saying.

trying to remember what avenger was like at attitash. i might have to add it to my list

It's a nice, smooth, downhill race-style slope. You can really rip some speed on it, or head under the lift and make smooth turns.

It's also the trail where I tore my ACL three seasons ago, so there's a little love-hate there.

I flail badly when skiing under an open lift. I don't know why, but I do... :(

That said I still enjoy skiing them. The ones that come to mind, in no particular order:

Liftline @ BEast
Redline @ Magic
Blackline (though not a traditional liftline trail IMHO) @ Magic
Castlerock Liftline @ Sugarbush
The Mall @ Sugarbush
Chute @ MRG
Chute and Freefall @Snow can be fun too, when left alone.

I don't really have an opinion on skiing under the lift, but a lot of other people I know don't like it. Trails under the lift can be assumed not to have much variety because they are usually long and straight. Actually, trails under the lift can be lots of different types of trails. Steeps, moguls, views, warm ups, whatever. But there are some great runs under the lift which I think are awesome.

RANGE VIEW, Bretton Woods (Great views)
HEADER, Killington (Great warm up run, my first blue)
QUANTUM LEAP, Okemo (Good pitch and views at the top)
WEST MOUNTAIN, Sugarloaf (The most remote trail I have ever skied, very unique)
UPPER WILD THING, Okemo (Great double fall line trail)

Header was my first blue run, too. I loved it. :snow:

Unbumped Chute at MRG is pretty special.
Waterfall at Stowe, esspecially when the waterfall fills in and you can ski it.
I loved Bravo today at SBN, unbumped blanet of love.
Lookout was my first run on a really good day at Stowe for along time.
Smuggs has some NASTY lift lines, but I ain't skiied 'em.

The waterfall itself--that is essentially a huge cliff--actually fills in and opens? I thought that was always closed (but that people jumped it anyways)? They must need a TON of snow for that to happen (and it has to blow in the right way). If that does open, how often does that happen?

I've never seen it filled in completely. In the summer it's about 40 feet tall. As a huck it's a flat landing, unles you hit it from the line recently opened up on skier's left in the bushes, so you jump accross the face and land on the apron right at the base of the cliff. The two ways I've skiied it was from the skier's right side you can billy goat down an Ice flow off a pillow that forms on a small stump, and basically ski right down the face of it w/o really airing...and hit the apron right at the base of it which is a nice transition. Or from skiers left you can make a hop turn down to a ledge and ski accross the face. This way is a 5-8 foot drop onto a ledge, then a 10-12 foot drop off. The other way is like a 20 foot almost vertical face onto a nice tranny. Haven't done it on my tele gear yet...

Thanks for the info. It's always officially closed though, right? I.e., the trail on the map called "Waterfall" doesn't actually include the waterfall itself?

My favorite use to be Liftline at Stratton. Years ago it was always groomed and I really enjoyed bombing it. Went there last year and was told they let it bump up now. I'd been away for 10 years so I didn't realize. Anyone know when the switch was made?
