I know, I am orginally from Maine, so yes perhaps a bit biased, but I can't think of a Ski Resort/Mountain that has a better view from the base. Personally my favorite shots from a ski area come from up on Mt. Mansfield (yes understood, it's not lift served).

That looks like it was taken from somewhere near the ski house my family always stayed at, but its view was a bit more straight-on. Came in handy to be able to look out the big picture window and see what was running, in those pre-WSKI (never mind sugarloaf.com!) days. (No way was our family of six going to get out the door before the lifts opened.)

I thought this thread would be about views out across the valley from the base lodge. It's many years since I've skied Sugarloaf, but I'd still pick the view across to Bigelow Mt. Does that still exist, or is the hotel in the way?

As far as views up the mountain from the base, Big Squaw was another where you could hardly see the trails. And the mountain was all fir trees. (I guess it's even more that way now.)

Sorry, should have been more clear, I didn't mean from just the base village, but base as in valley floor, off mountain, general vacinity, yes village at the base as well, but not just the base village. I was hoping this would produce other quality/stunning shots of ski resorts from below the lifts.

Definitely Sugarloaf. One look at a photo and you know it's Sugarloaf.

I would also include:

1. Stowe/Mansfield showing the entire profile.
2. Cannon looking up from I-93.
3. Jay on a rare bluebird day when you can see the peak and the tram.

I dont have a photo, but whiteface has to be in this conversation. I say that having only seen it snow covered from across lake Champlain and up close during the off season.

MRG. You can hardly see a trail.

I was just up there this past weekend and took my wife by for the first time. I was surprised she didn't mention this because I sure noticed it. You can only see 4 or 5 things that even resemble a trail.

Personally speaking Wildcat the view from the base area of Wildcat is cool but you don't get the view of Tucks and Mt Washington like it is up on the mountain. i took some picks last time I was there and walked over to the extreme northeast corner of the parking lot and is was better but still nothing like the view as your skiing down.

Here's a pic I got lucky with...sometimes when you get to work before everyone else you get rewarded. This is taken from the second floor deck of the base lodge.

I thought this thread would be about views out across the valley from the base lodge.

If that were the case, Saddleback would take the prize. Specifically the views from the Swig N' Smelt pub on the 2nd floor.

Can't beat Sugarloaf for the awesome view of the mountain from the base. But Cannon from I-93 and Saddleback are impressive as well.

While the view of the Loaf hits you all at once, you get great views of Saddleback for quite a few miles before you get there. Particularly from route 16 between the Loaf and Rangely, as well as along the long approach road to the mountain.
