i'm with steve. i don't want the ski season to ever end. as long as i can link some turns on my last day it's a high note. once the skis go in the closet that's when the low notes begin.

I guess it's partially how I interpreted the question. Of course I'd rather it be winter 365 (or 366) days of the year with great conditions every day. But given that we have these things called seasons and that winter is going to end sometime, I'd rather feel like I finished out the season (at least the lift-serviced season). On any given day I'd rather have more open than less open and snow everywhere. But if my last day were like that, I would feel as if I didn't get all I could out of the season (probably an odd statement coming from someone who would consider a 15-day season to be a success, but I probably still think/talk/dream about skiing as much as those of you skiing 40, 50+ days).

Most likely my last day was last Friday with more than perfect spring conditions as Killington. The sun was warm, the snow was mashed potatoes and corn, the deck was full of folks soaking up the suds and the sun. If that's it - and I still hold out hope for 1 more day - nothing wrong with that. Before that I thought the Sunday storm at K would be it, and ended up leaving early to beat the bad roads. Now if that had been it, I would have been mighty upset as I never had my goodbye with the Mountain.

You feel like there could be more sure, but days like last Friday don't come around all that often. I'm satisfied with going out on perfection.

Well said, and that's what I meant. The question wasn't how long you will or would like to ski, but under what conditions would you prefer to end your season some can't be bothered with soft snow and slush that you typically encounter during spring skiing. Or runouts that eventually turn into dirt trails towards the end of the season. Theny prefer to end their season with nice soft winter conditions. Others not only go to the bitter end of lift serviced but then hike after lifts close.

last year we ended our season memorial weekend hiking to ski the lower section of outer limits. even hiked over to ski the remains of the halfpipe on dreammaker. as limited as that was, i consider that ending on a high note. to someone else that might have been 'why bother' or a low note, but even as i was making what i knew to be my final turns, i felt a nostagia come over me for the season about to end. if i ended this season after last weekend's incredible skiing, the subsequent turns that i could have but didn't make would 'haunt' me all summer long.

I made turns last Sunday for the count but I checked out after sat.

Had a great day. Sunny skiing with great skiers all day in the slides. Lots of decent hit. A few good face plants. Ended the day in the parking lot with about 30 other skiers tailgating. It was a perfect way to check out and start thinking about how to improve my golf game.

I wish I could continue for a little longer but can't complain about ending it at Killington Monday. So I guess a high note. Beats last season when I tripped at Hunter and seperated my shoulder for the nth time.

I'd count that as a "low note" for the purposes of this question. If that isn't a low note, I'm not sure the poll has much of a point. Everyone would just vote high note. My interpretation was that a "high note" meant a lot of snow and terrain still open whereas a low note meant you were getting the last remnants of the season (lift serviced or non) regardless of how much fun those last remnants might be.

I'm REALLY hoping to snowboard with BobR at Mountain Jam at Hunter in early June... We did that 2 years ago... Could hear the bands while skiing...

To me finishing my season on a sliver of snow, on a sunny June day, knocking back a couple of brews with some buds is ending my season on a high note.. Wouldn't have it any other way...
