Hey all,

I did a search on the forums and couldn't find anything.

I've been 11 days in new boots now and I hadn't had these issues until now. Essentially, my big toe on my right foot has developed some bruising at the base of the nail. (And it throbs like a son-of-a...)

My guess is that I need the toe box punched but I'm wondering if there could be another explanation.

Anyone else experience this?

I guess I need to find a decent bootfitter in Maine.

There's something wrong with you :)

I found a thread Nick started on toenails and boots. The difference in scenarios is that my big toe nail is trimmed fairly short.

Either boot is too big and your foot is sliding forward banging toe on end or it's too small.

If I had the time, is drive to Plymouth and have Paul or Brian at Feet First do it. The bummer is that it is a 3 hour drive each way. I hear the guys at Allspeed in Portland are good.

This happen to my son when he was told to by a boot that fit his foot exactly? When he went off jumps the landing was serving his toe into the front of the boot! If I would have been there he would not have bought them. I went back with him and got the boots exchanged even though he wore them for half of the season. They gave me a lite hassle but told them they should have known better! It was at Ken Jones in Manchester! We got him in a size up and everything was fine! I think it is called toe bang!

Black toe, or as my 10yr old daughter refers to it "6 month nail polish" :)

Question #1 - are you feeling the toe pressure/discomfort every day you're in your boots? If not then this could have been a one time anomaly where you say landed awkwardly and jammed your toe just that one time. If it's every time in the boots than its a size issue that a fitter can address

#2 - and it sounds like you have this taken care of already - toe nail length

It hasn't been every time but the past three or so times out it has been pretty pronounced. I also notice my toes on that foot getting cold which is a bit of an anomaly as it never happened with my old boots. I replayed the days events in my head and there were no jumps to speak of or moments of "bang" that stand out.

Im almost certain it is a fit problem at this point. If I have to buy new boots, someone might need to check me into a mental hospital.

This happened to me last year at the loaf. In my case, the boots were too small and my to was pressed right up against the front, even scrunched over a bit. I went over a small drop and when I landed it just went bang. when I took off my boot later the toe was black. It took almost 10 months to grow out.
