Skied yesterday and today at Bretton. Things were in pretty good shape yesterday even though we didn't start until noon. The trails with only natural snow and no grooming were a bit cruddy and had quite a few grassy spots, some sticks, etc., but everything they had open and groomed was skiing really well, with only a few scraped off spots. Crowds were light.

Today, we skied from around 9:00 until 1:00, most of which was in a raging blizzard. I think Bretton is the place to go when conditions are like that -- it was only really awful at the top of the Bethlehem Express, which was in fact really really awful with very high winds and horizontal snow. The top of the Zephyr was a lot more tolerable, it's more protected given the wind direction. The Rosebrook quad, that goes to the top, was closed, and we weren't interested in riding it anyway. I can't imagine what it would have been like at the top of Cannon today....

Given the lack of crowds, we had an amazing day, hopping on and off the lifts with no waiting. The snow was accumulating especially around midday, and it was really like butter in most spots. Things started to get pretty wet around 1:00 when we left, but it was still snow rather than rain. We're just down the road in Bethlehem, and it's been raining but not torrentially all afternoon, so I hope they don't get hit too hard by this.

I was there for a morning session. We had a blast. The ungroomed natural trails were soft and carvable. Stuff was filling in nicely when we left at noon.

What a good time. I'll bet Riverc0il is kicking himself about now (for not getting out this AM). Thanks for the TR.
I got mine yesterday. Unless someone posts a trip report with better turns than I got yesterday, I am satisfied with the no go decision. A much needed nice day of mental and physical refreshment was had. Cannon's web site reports that they closed early afternoon due to winds. I suspect snow accumulations that actually stuck didn't amount to much any ways. I am tempting someone to prove me wrong here... :spin:

Noice to here BW is skiing well. I skied Cannon with my son & his friend this weekend. Big whales on parties, lower ravine. Same on Gary's n rocket/zoomer with an abundance of bumps. Paulies n avalanche were au natural. Bypass skied really well. Overall excellent coverage. We left happy. We'll be back next weekend as the kids start the jv development program.
