Okay, so we all know K's official opening date is projected to be November 11. Look at this on the BW Web site:

If Mother nature agrees, Bretton Woods plans to open the alpine ski area during the first week of November! Be sure to check back for the latest information regarding opening day!
That could be interpreted in a few ways; i.e. the first week (November starts on a Tuesday) or the first full week (week of November 6)? Does it look like BW is going to make a showing in the "open-first" game this year? Time will tell...

I think BW is trying to get the longest season in New Hampshire title and keep it for years to come. And it may translate into longest in New England if Mo nature gives a little help. This is another reason I will be getting the Bold and Beautiful pass. It may not be real challenging but at least is skiing early and late.

Killington is unlikely to be first to open this year. Given energy costs this year, it wouldn't suprise me if they didn't blow the Superstar glacier this year, either.

35 years of marketing and brand management down the drain.

interesting. personally, i think BW really blew it last year. so i am a doubter this year but would be interested in being proved wrong. given kmart's scaling back of the season ends, the game is wide open for another ski area to get a huge marketing push and buzz from having the longest ski area in the east. especially if done in a way that doesn't allow killington to qualify things. qualifiers suck, i hate PR departments :D

that said i can't see BW expanding the edges of their season to be a motivating factor in skiing there early or late. BW is already a fairly flat mountain, but their early and late season trails are especially weak. late season, there is so so so much good stuff worth hiking too in may. it simply isn't even a blip on the radar screne to do lift serviced in may, especially down flat trail. early season, turns are turns i guess. but i would much rather have pitch and a chance of bumps for a similar priced ticket, both of which kmart provides. BW will need to do more than just open first to truly put kmart to shame... BW needs to open with a quality product that is worth paying for.

If they are open the 1st weekend in November I'll probably go. ya it is flat, but close and it was like $25 I think for early opening. I went a few years back the 1st Sat they were open.
