Resort: Burke
Date: February 27, 2015
Conditions: PP/P; cold with highs in the 10's.
Report: After four years, I finally returned to my home mountain and finally got to ride the MidBurke Express. Wow, what a nice ride.
It was Ski with the Point Day, so my sister got us pins so that we could enjoy half-priced skiing. The morning was very cold--about -20F at my folks' house. So we waited until 10:00 to head up and did not get started until about 10:30. My brother in law, who had only skied once in his life, needed a couple warm-up runs on the lower mountain. All I can say is that he is a damn natural. It also helps that he has played ice hockey for years.
We skied Binney Lane and Sherman's March (the former) to Bunker Hill before striking out for the summit. My brother and I hit Carriage Road to Lower Powderhorn. While there were some areas that were scratchy, overall it was very nice skiing.
After picking up my brother in law and sister, we headed back up to the top to ski Toll Road. My brother-in-law mastered that pretty easily, so we headed down Dippers....the entire way. He nailed it. During the day we skied Willoughby, Lower Bear Den, Meadows, East Bowl (amazing), Powderhorn, Little Dipper, and parts of Toll Road. All were very good skiing. The cold kept people at bay until 2:30 pm or so. Never really a line. I got a solo run on Ledge's and it was pretty nice. My brother and I closed with a run down Warren's and that was pretty good although a bit slick at the top.
A wonderful first day back to Burke. I will post some pictures from the first day.
