EAST BURKE, Vermont — The 2005/06 season marked Burke Mountain's 50th year of operation, and the ski area is busy preparing a celebration worthy of such an anniversary. The mountain will host a special 50th Anniversary dinner on Monday, March 27th, in the new Tamarack Grill restaurant, which opened this year in the Sherburne Base Lodge.

The Tamarack Grill's executive chef, Steve Grimes, has prepared an elegant menu for an evening expected to be filled with reminiscing among Burke enthusiasts, and one that will feature the debut of a short film documenting the storied history of skiing on the mountain. The 15-minute long movie was made for the event, and includes footage of the construction of the POMA lift in 1955, interviews with local legends, and clips from five decades of skiing at Burke.

Tickets for the anniversary dinner are $60 per guest, with a cash bar. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Umbrella Organization of St. Johnsbury, a not-for-profit organization offering supportive programming for families struggling with domestic and sexual violence and child care support services.

In reference to the evening's festivities, Burke's general manager, Charlie Hardiman had this to say. "It will certainly be an exciting evening to gather with friends and celebrate 50 years of some of New England's best skiing right here at Burke. It will be especially gratifying to do it in such a way that benefits our community."
