What does everyone think about butternut? I am pretty sure they have season passes for 229. I never hear any people talking about this mountain. I guess that must mean somthing....

IMO it pretty much SUCKS.

Its really flat and pretty boring to ski. But my real problem with the Mtn is the lack of Ski Patrol presence on the hill. Lots of teenagers ski & ride there becuase its so cheap and close to home. But with no ski patrol presence on the hill they ski & ride like idiots. The other thing I though was lame is that you have to pay an addition charge to use the terrain park on top of your lift ticket

The lifts are also extremly slow and the place is very over croweded......becuase of the cheap pass.

Agree with Mr. evil. I went to Butternt once and I highly doubt I'll go back again. The trails are flat, overgroomed and are to similar to each other. The place is as crowded as hell on weekends thanks to the cheap season passes. Pay more for a higher quality ski area

Never skied it, but drive past it several times a year when visiting a customer. It does look a bit on the flat side, but it also looks like there could be some decent advanced terrain off lookers left side of the mountain should it ever be developed. As with any area, I'd be down for a day on the hill to check it out. I can have fun almost anywhere for a day.

Butternut is a great feeder hill and an excellent place to teach your kids how to ski. The cheap season passes make it ideal for families. All 4 of my children learned to ski there & we had some great family times there. All of the bad attributes pointed out by previous posters are true, however, so it just depends on what you're looking for.

If you want a great family place that is affordable & a close place to teach your children to ski, it's great. It was a one hour drive door to door for me so closeness was a plus for me & my family

If you're already an accomplished skier looking for a challenge and cost is not that important to you, there are lots of better options.

That just about sums it up perfectly. Also, the grooming and snowmaking in my experience is among the best in the Berkshires. If gentle groomed slopes are your thing, it's a good option.

While Butternut has good grooming and snowmaking, the excessive uphill capacity scrapes the good snow off, so it makes no real difference. If you or a friend is learning how to ski, you or s/he should do so at a less crowded ski area. I don't want any Butternut fans to kill me for having said that, that's how I honestly feel about the ski area.

i skied butternut a couple times when I was younger and less accomplished on the snowboard and had a lot of fun. I decided to go back this past season for the hell of it and it was incredibly boring, borderline miserable. Definately not how I remembered it (I remember being intimidated by Lucifer's Leap, ha ha!) What the others have said above is true, great place to learn, but if you already know how to ski/ride, head to another mountain.
