Actually [Camelback] is not really that small and the photo only shows about 40% of the ski area which is spread out along a ridge with 33 trails.

Camelback really is that small. It makes the most of what they have, but it's still only a 800' vertical ridge. I skiied there (about 10 years ago, yikes!) on a day that started off very foggy, so that summit was in the clouds. Looking up at the ski area, it was difficult to tell how large it really was, but then after the super-fast HSQ ride to the top, I quickly realized that there just isn't much there.

However, for what it is, Camelback does a nice job. With the two HSQs, it's possible to get a lot of runs in (I was there midweek, so not particularly crowded.)

I am not trying to defend this place too much, but it beats out any skiing in Connecticut, most of the skiing in New Jersey and compares favorably with alot of Massachusetts, with vertical drop, snowmaking and HSQ lifts.

I like Blue and Elk alot more, but Camelback is not all that bad. The 1994 expansion with the Stevenson Express and the Cliffhanger trail, make the mountain tolerable for a whole day of skiing.

800' of vertical is not bad. Sundown's the closest to me and it's only 625', but when the bumps are set up, I have fun. I'd be psyched if it had a couple hundred more feet of vert, but it's close so I take what I can get. Also, let's not forget, Crotched is only 875' of vertical and that place gets high praise from many members here...

I was "threatened" with having my lift ticket clipped at Okemo nearly 20 years ago, but that's all that came out of it.

Camelback is a zoo on the weekends, but you can have the place to yourself on the weekdays like I did in January 2006. If I had to ski in the Poconos it would either be at Camelback of Elk.

Shawnee puts me to sleep, Jack Frost is even shorter in vertical drop and trail length than Camelback, and I hate Alpine Mountain.

Needless to say I watched that video MANY times..as that was my weekly ski trip in High school......man we used to BOMB that hill....big ole straight skis 10inches taller than we were...HA...those were the days.
