I'm heading up north for a trip this friday and I've never been to both of these places. They are equal distance from my college and both will be 40$ for me fri. So I ask you guys whose going to have the better terrain on friday and where do you think I should go. It looks like magic has closed some trails today. But idk if the 90% open at Magic will be more fun then the 100% open at cannon give me your thoughts.

Magic was rad last Friday:

I imagine some of the really good stuff is pretty skied off by now, but maybe they'll pick up a few inches to freshen things up on Thursday. Can't comment on Cannon...

I've never been to Magic, so I can't compare the two, but I went to Cannon on Sunday and Monday, and also Thursday (right after the storm), and the conditions were awesome. Cannon has awesome terrain (Tramline is crazy), and also Mittersill, which requires some hiking, is in the best condition I've ever seen it. Again, I know nothing about Magic, but I can't imagine Cannon would disappoint you.

Crowds at Cannon this week?

How were the crowds at Cannon early in the week?

I usually avoid Prez week like the plague but I'm way behind on my days on the snow and need to get out. I'm looking at it for Friday.

Sounds like the temprature going to fall so that should help keep the crowds in check.

Thanks

Can't tell you about the crowds at Cannon this week but last weekend was as busy as it gets there.Still no line was more than 5 minutes.Didn't go to the tram though as it's always longer unless you happen to hit it exactly when it's loading and can get on that car.Having said that, the trails were littered with people but I doubt the crowds will be as big as last weekend as that's always the biggest of the year.

Considering the condition that it was in Monday, I would say that Mittersill is definitely still worth the hike, possibly even two hikes. The hike is less than ten minutes, probably about five minutes.

After last Friday I have to go with Magic also.

Hey pepperdawg, I wonder how many times we saw each other skiing that day. Amazing we never managed to cross paths.

5 minute hike, very easy.Mittersill was pretty good last weekend but like most OB it could use another dump.

Agreed. The bumps today over there were HUGE. Still a ton of fun because they are so soft, but not the same as powder. I still managed to find some untracked powder over there today, but there defiantly isn't much unless you really know where you are going.

I'd say Magic to be safe if it is windy. At last check, the clipper is going to be kicking up some NW winds tomorrow.

Where are you seeing that? All snow through the Berkshires....
up until yesterday, most forecasts were calling for mixed precip even in northern VT. models just changed up a bit yesterday as most forecasts are now saying snow. works for me.

i'd still go to cannon, though ;) magic ain't got nothing on cannon when everything is filled in and with more fresh on the way, oh man, i am thinking about finally using my free ticket over there soon. :D then again, magic will probably get more snow for friday, so magic wouldn't be a bad idea.
