my buddy calls last night and says a friend of his has a time share for the week up at Cannon. My buddy says hes driving up Sat after work (he's a chiro) , skiing Sunday. I am skiing Sat with my 4yr old locally so i could go up with him in the afternoon....however, we were planning a trip up to MRG Apr 1....do to time (not financial) i could do 1 of the trips, not both....which one should i opt for....granted Apr is Palm Sunday, not real big deal and even the wife gave me the go-ahead to go ski that day....So, Cannon this Sunday or MRG April 1st????

FYI, I prefer skiing steep ungroomed and trees...(think Front 4 at Stowe/Robins Run at Smuggs etc)

Come last April 1st last year MRG was not in prime shape. Once the natural melts away there your proper screwed.

Cannon isnt a snowmaking powerhouse, but all my buds back home are saying the mtn is skiing better right now than it has in years. Id go there if you ask me.

April 1 is pretty late for MRG. Might or might not be good still, leaning towards not.

Cannon is in great shape right now and with another 12" of snow would be epic...right now.

Don't wait. Go to Cannon.

stowe and SB still should be good though

Perhaps...I would guess Sugarbush more than Stowe.

The only absolute right now, today, is that there is great snow up there for your enjoyment immediately. To me, it makes this conversation moot.

You know what they say about a bird in hand...

MRG is too dicey at that time....ski cannon and do Mitter, always a good time there.

cannon holds snow much better late season than mrg. partially due to the fact that cannon makes snow and grooms though... certainly not due to their lower snow fall ;) cannon usually goes to the first weekend of april, mrg is about the same. cannon would be a much better mountain with your 4 year old. i doubt MRG will be spinning birdland that late in the game whereas cannon will still have groomed out intermediate stuff. i love me some MRG any time, but for a recommendation in this situation, i think cannon has more reliability.

So what did you decide? I probably would have opted for Cannon just because I know the conditions are good there now, who knows what April will bring...
