The tram is the best way to ski Cannon. Top to bottom laps are awesome. How else can you ski the upper part of the mountain to Avalanche/Paulies/Zoomer/Banshee? Otherwise its 3 lift rides! Yuck!

Only 2 lift rides to the summit if not doing the tram. If you are already at Zoomer and want to go to the summit, you just take the tram up. You don't go Zoomer > Peabody > Cannonball to get to the summit unless you are daft. Its all about knowing how to work the mountain. If you are Peabody, its quicker to get to the summit going Peabody > Cannonball than Peabody > Tram. Its all about working the mountain effectively. Riding the tram all day blows, I hate waiting and taking off my skis and trying not to fall on my ass on the deck when its windy. Tram works when you want it to work. So do the other lifts. Its all about how you want to work the mountain. Its nice having options.

I agree. I didn't say I want to only ski the tram. Obviously, I was responding about the tram not running or going away. If the tram is not running, you must take 3 lifts to ski a top to bottom run including the zoomer runs. That sucks. I don't exclusively ski the tram runs. I frequently will do Peabody-Cannonball laps. However, that takes a bit longer as the tram is a faster lift. I will take the Zoomer chair a few times. I like options too. Not having the tram is bad.

Actually DP makes a good point. Because when the tram isn't running (which is three days a week and all of the early and late season) you don't have that option. This is a big part of the point of my earlier posts.....I wish they'd RUN THE TRAM as much as possible.

Eh. It all goes back to having a plan of attack. If you want to go to the summit and you are at the base of Zoomer with no Tram option, you are not working the mountain... you are letting the mountain work you. If the Tram is not running, you base out of Peabody and only go to Zoomer when you intend to follow that up with going back to the lodge or going Peabody side. If you want to hit the summit, go lap the summit, don't go to Zoomer. I'm not a T2B type guy so perhaps it doesn't phase me as much as some. Cannon ain't a T2B type mountain, though. Especially not when the Tram is running. But even when it is, I just think lapping the Tram is the lame. And the lack of lines on the tram suggests most people get that as well. Compared to Jay where people line up for the tram to ski.... what? Vermonter and Northway? C'mon.

Here is another thought.... I don't think much about three chairs to the summit because I am used to it and okay with it. Mitt laps used to be three chairs unless you took Baron's and cut back. Three chairs to the summit used to one of my favorite ways to ski Cannon. So I see it through that relative lens.

Yes. I park at the tram. It's the shortest car-to-lift walk. At the end of the day I can usually ski right to the door of my truck.
.

Absolutelty incorrect.I park right on the Brookside trail and step out of my car and into my skis right next to the lift.Zero walking. You can't do that anywhere that I know of.

My 35+ years of skiing 60 days a year have given me a strong opinion on the tram.I hate it.If I use it 2 times a year thats a lot.Its a pain in the ass to keep taking your skis off and walking inside a building to stand in a stagnent line watching the world go by while I don't move.If you happen to miss that next tram its 20 minutes before you arrive at the top after loading and unloading.Who the heck likes being herded like cattle into that box with all those bad breath bodies pressed up against you.Not this guy.You can have it.I'll take being out in the elements anytime over that thing. Most of the couple hunderd regulars I hang with feel exactly the same way although there is a contingent that won't live without it and won't step foot in the Peabody area.I can understand that but to each his own.I'll stay out of that cattle carrier whenever possible.

These can be done from the to car to chair without walking.

Sunapee to North Peak
Killington in Bay 1 to Snowdon Quad or Ramshead if ski longer
South Peak Quad at Loon if I remember right.

I probably left out some.

I stand corrected and you make a very valid point.

I should have been a little less cavalier with my original statement and said something more precise like:
"I park at the Tram. It's the shortest walk from the car to a lift that will take you 2,000' vertical up to the summit of the mountain accessing virtually every trail at all levels of ability and running 15 minutes earlier than all other lifts. Although this walk is MUCH further and more strenuous than the trip to the Wonder Carpet at the Learning Center or the 700' Brookside Triple Chair, both of which top-out at at approximately the elevation of the base lodge, I still find it worth effort."

I also stand corrected but do you need to pole or skate to the lift at these other areas? As soon as my skis are on I close the car door and gravity takes me to the lift.Boy am I getting lazy.
