We evaluate these things on a case-by-case basis.

Well thank god... Cause we all want to enjoy ski country and what it has to offer - I'm glad we can let businesses that are in ski country contribute to threads and offer services..

We do the same for Keith in Hunter... And others...

Well, we try to encourage participation too. It adds a bit of crediblity if you're an active member. In this instance, despite being their first post, the poster posted a link to his/her establishment within an existing thread. It's on topic and may be of some value to other AZ members so I don't have any issues with it. I'm hopeful that acmill99 will continue to participate. KingM is a good example of an active member that reasonably uses this forum to increase visibility of his property. No problem with that at all. In fact, we've partnered on some other things as a result.

I think in the especially in the Catskills, where since the advent of air transportaion, the resort and vacation business has suffered GREATLY (drive through Pine Hill, Phoenecia, or Margaretville around Belleayre and you will probably see 30 out of business hotels and hostels, not even getting to out near Hunter or Windham), it's important to allow small businesses that relate to the snow sports to get as much publicity as possible. It's tough for the majority of these resorts (more so for those not sanctioned by resorts such as the new resort at Hunter...). Bravo for allowing such "ads" Greg, granted only if they are active in the community and don't detract too much from the original topics.

My intent was not to change the direction of the discussion. I have talked to many, many businesses up in Hunter/Windham and you would not believe how team oriented we are in the Catskills. I only wish the two mountains (Hunter/Windham) were as team oriented. Why not initiate a multi day, multi mountain ski pass? The car was the first thing that really hurt the Catskill Mountains when vacationers were no longer restricted to weekend getaways close to a rail line. Today, people in the NYC metro area have more disposable income than ever and can afford to travel out West or in some cases to Europe for a weekend ski trip. My brothers and I did the math last weekend and realized that New York State will make significantly more profit off our B&B this winter than us. They get a guaranteed 8% through a sales tax on each and every guest's stay. How much of that money do you think will come back to the Windham area? Then look at demographics. 20 years ago 9 out of 10 homes were lived in full-time. Today that number is roughly 5 out of 10 homes. But that must mean that people in Metro NYC are fond of the area because they are purchasing real estate like crazy. You have my word that the main reason we opened that B&B is because we love the Catskill Mountains and we want to expose our guests to all, not just winter, the mountains have to offer. For the record, I have already sent Greg an email regarding potentially starting an ad campaign via this website. We generate well over 90% of our reservations through internet marketing. Ohh...and now instead of hitting the slopes on Sunday, I clean rooms.

I think the multi-mountian pass is a great idea but Hunter is, to my knowledge, partnered (maybe financially) by a company that owns mountains out west (can't recall which ones, but one or two of the big ones in Colorado and Utah I think). Would be a great idea, but logistics would be tough (Belleayre is state owned, Plattekill only open weekends usually...). Hope your B&B works out.

Well this summer I'm going backpacking and sea kayaking in Washington for 5 weeks, but usually I'm at sports/outdoors camp (last summer was my last).

I've never actually hiked much in the Catskills. I have about half of the 46 high peaks in the Adirondacks but I think maybe only Slide Mountain (or some other mountain near West Shokan) in the Catskills.
