This would be more flame-arific if you also opined on which version is better.
Edited:

"I Shot the Sheriff", Bob Marley, Eric Clapton - a toss up. I like both versions.

"With a Little Help From my Friends", Lennon/McCartney, Joe Cocker - I like the Joe Cocker version better. The Beatles version is approaching elevator music.

"Respect", Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin - Aretha baby!

"Me and Bobby McGee", Kris Kristofferson, Janice Joplin - Joplin's version

"Mustang Sally", Buddy Guy, Every band that has ever played at Killington - Varies. Most bands butcher it but I've heard some really good covers.

i think people would put up their fav version. i didn't post aretha doing "jumping jack flash" or "pink cadillac" because the originals are better. john prine has been covered by everyone but none are as good as john. that being said
dylan "all along the watchtower" hendrix

Proud Mary - CCR originally, IKE and TIna cover is way better
Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell original, Counting Crowes with Vanessa Carlton is quite good
Love Song - Cure original, 311's cover is great
War Pigs - Black Sabbath original, Faith No More's Cover

And because it makes me smile EVERY time I hear it:

Just A Gigolo - Louis Prima originally, David Lee Roth's Cover
