Cranmore - 12/21/07 Date(s) Skied: Friday 12/21/07
Resort or Ski Area: Cranmore, NH

Conditions: PP, Powder

Trip Report:

It's great when everything comes together as it should.

A) They got about 8" of fresh, dry powder
B) My 15 yr old had the day off from school
C) The tickets were $3.30 cents each - it was the 70th anniversary of the area so they charged the price of 70 years ago

I've been to Cranmore a few times in varied conditions and found 4 hours to be enough. Today, however, was different. Fresh stuff everywhere! Of course getting there at 9:30 meant much fewer untracked runs than getting first tracks. We did, however, find stashes in the woods and near the beginner area. The place was fairly busy with intermediates so the groomed trails got most of the traffic. It was flatlight until 2 pm and when the sun broke through, the day went to a whole other level. Nice fluffy bumps were forming on some trails and we were in heaven. We did enounter hidden rocks on some trails-this is December after all and the base has yet to truly form.

Anyhow, I have a new respect for the place though I doubt I'll ever get tickets for that price again! Sorry no pix, camera issues.

How long were the lift lines and crowds in general? Usually when someone offer next to zero pricing, you get every Tom Dick and Harry all the way to Timbuktu coming. Th e comments usually go like this "If I hadn't paid $3.30 I'd be B!(#$ing about the wait."

The high-speed lift had 10-13 minute lines at times but the other lifts were fairly quick. There were plenty of people there but we got plenty of runs in. The powder stashes were closer to the less-used lifts (no surprise).

I was there too Chris. I'll post some pics in my report. I was with the wife and kid, so I was one of those on the groomers. Did get a few turns in the woods off of Easy St and Outta Luck. Also did a few runs down Kandahar. A bit brown and scratchy, but still a hella deal for $3.30. Funny thing was we got 2 of our tix for free at the Boston Globe Expo. So it ended-up being $1.10 for each of us. 8)

Somebody told me on the lift that they had 2 for 1 tickets for that specific day! A friend who showed up later jokingly asked if the half-day passes would be less than $3.30. The answer was $44.00 so he bought the full-day.

Hmmmm... Can't miss us, got the only kid with the three purple horns on her helmet. We were also among the few with that stupid Connecticut accent.
