I recently joined a new shop, and one of my first tasks is to get a CRM system in place. My old shop used the huge Microsoft CRM, with a whole boatload of consultants and developers etc in tow. It truly has a lot of horsepower, and did way more than we needed there, without doing everything we needed. I don't need that kind of power here.

We're an investment firm, with a pretty weird sales cycle- call it two "products" that are on sale for about a year at a time each, every 3 or so years, and regular projects we "bid" for. 50 existing "customers" with a prospect pool of 1500+, worldwide.

I will likely be the only person, at least for a while, in the system regularly, and there is no legacy system, so no integration/setup issue to speak of.

What, if anything, are you using, and how doe sit rate on ease of use, customizability, and stability?

Salesforce.com seems to have more back office stuff than I want/need, and nothing that's particularly tailored to what I need. Zoho seems to have the flexibility to handle my needs, but I don't know how they are as far as stability and security. MS CRM, I already know, requires a fair amount of customization and work to make it effective, and I just don't have the budget for that.

I would get something as off the shelf as possible so you font need perpetual development to keep it running especially as your needs change
