But as I've gotten older and am now contemplating having kids, I've heard people talk about this, as Crank did, so that you are going through the same learning progression with your kids. That kind of sounds cool!

A lot of the older boarders I chatted with on lift rides seem indicate this is why they took it up.

For me it wasn't kids, but it was similar. I was a pretty advanced skier when I got married. My wife was a beginner/intermediate. I thought that starting back at zero with snowboarding and learning with her would be fun. Best decision ever. That was 17 years ago. She couldn't be more hooked on snowboarding.

Both. I am a skier who took up boarding about 14 years ago when my son was 4 or 5. He is a skier and had reached the point where he could get around on his own; ride the lift, get up after a fall etc.. I started boarding so that I could hang on the greens and blues with him and not be bored.

I'm sure this is possible but didn't you give up the "demonstration" part of teaching your son? I'm not sure how many skiers would sign up for a lesson taught by an instructor on a snow board. Especially with children, "monkey see, monkey do" has a strong positive impact on learning.

After 10 years on skis, I decided to give snowboarding a shot. The poor start to the season gave me the motivation I needed. With the winter off to a slow start I’m not missing any great skiing while I learn to ride. Four days on a snowboard so far. I just bought a board over the weekend and I’m going to try commit most of the season to riding. I’ll probably still ski this year when I’m out with friends, or depending on the conditions.

Very cool - a lot more riders in this forum than I thought there'd be. yeah I'm definitely really happy to be able to do both and switch it up when desired...gives every mountain a little extra flavor
