The marketing dept. gets out of control again.

Bretton Woods issues this statement:
"...received four feet of fresh snow last month. The snow is here. Now all we need is you."

C'mon guys, I was there on Saturday and after the first couple of hours, it was scratch city.

Those on this group know better. But someone reading the Boston Globe who hasn't been up north yet, well....

MLK weekend coming up, fresh snow hitting the I-95 corridor, general public interest in skiing this weekend will be very high, and there will be LOTS of $$ to be made this weekend in the ski industry. So one can easily see how the marketing departments will spin things in many ways to attract more of the "couple times a year" skiers/riders who will be out in force this weekend

To call advertising a factual statistic deceptive marketing, simply because a few less than intelligent consumers MAY take it to mean something it doesn't, is a stretch to say the least. It doesn't take any knowledge about the ski industry whatsoever to know that snow melts, compacts, etc. and that what fell may no longer be there, or at the very least will be in a much different form than when it fell. I can't fault marketing departments for making any TRUTHFUL statements that shed a positive light on the resort or conditions. Just my opinion.

it implies there is a ton of snow and that all things are good.
No argument with the fact, it's what has been omitted that is the issue. Granted, intelligent people will look at the snow report to see what's open, etc. But what about the newbie or few-time skier?

I've gone to resorts that claim 12 trails, but it's really only 3 given all the segment names. Same issue.

It's the job of marketers to get the people there. It's the job of mountain operations to make sure they have a good time.

As far as newbies concerns, I think they're likely most worried about making up the Magic Carpet and sliding 200 feet down a hill without breaking a leg.

To me fresh snow means new snow. I opened the e-mail, only to find out that the 4 feet of fresh was from last month. From a marketing point it worked, I open the e-mail. Did I feel like I was miss led? Yes.

I did the same thing. I was wondering which storm I missed that recently dumped 4 feet on NH.
