Though I am not the biggest area, I am one of the oldest (possibly the oldest)continuously run areas in my state.
I was built on the property of a former mink farmer.

On February 10, 1935 nearly 10,000 curious spectators made a trip to watch 447 skiers climb up my pasture and ski down.

I was an early destination for many early ski train riders.

Among those who learned to ski my slopes were Gerald Ford, the nation's first skiing president, writer Lowell Thomas and department store magnate Marshall Field.

I too had an olympic skier that learned to ski and got much of her early training on my slopes.

My area was the first area to offer night skiing, and my owner is credited with inventing night skiing.

Pico?

Nope. That has to be Bousquet.

I was first opened in 1937 by Brad Mead. The first few years, I had a rope tow and my trails had the very boring names A, B, and C. In 1940, I got the first T-bar in North America. The daughter of my founder was the first American to win a gold medal.

Yes Geoff, it was indeed Bousquet.

Do you know the name of the olympian who started there?

And the answer to yours is Pico Peak, Andrea Mead Lawrence's father opened it and ran it for many years.

*I was founded by a wealthy New York banker.
*I had a very unique lift.
*My founder helped to free the "Father of Modern Skiing" from a Nazi prison in the early years of WW2.

I claim to have the longest vertical drop of any resort in my state. (no checking verticals now!)

I am within 2 hours drive from two major cities.

About two years ago I added a new expert trail that runs parallel to another expert trail.

Well we know it cannot be Ski Denton

Jiminy Peak?

Nope, sorry.

Another Hint:
I have only two Lodges - one near the summit and one near the Valley.

Mountain Creek?

No. Sorry.

More hints:
My neighbor mountain would do well in a desert.
I have extensive night skiing as well as a ski cross course.
One of the country's longest (if not the longest) highways runs nearby.

The majority of this mountain's 44 trails and lifts are named after Jay Ward animated characters
How come no one is trying to guess this one? Too easy? Too hard? I will throw out a guess of Mad River Glen only because I think they have 44 (maybe 45) trails with odd names. But what do I know....?

I am also thinking that it is blue mountain in Palmerton.

They really have a bs vertical drop though, as the HSQ base terminal is in a ditch.

My wife and I had to laugh at the billboard for the place with the "reach for the sky" logo on it. We drove right past the place on the way to the Lehigh.

I am the ski area where the lift ticket wicket was invented, and my patent for it was approved on March 22, 1966.

What is my name?
