The forecast from Sunday night until Halloween looks good for lots of snowmaking in New England. I'm hoping Mount Snow blasts Canyon and Standard to try to be earliest to open in Vermont again. There are also rumors of a Halloween opening at Killington and I'm pretty certain Sunday River will pull it off..Pretty exciting..:p:p:p

Sayin' it now. If the River or Killington is open next Saturday, I'll be there. Snow is a tad too much of a pain in the ass to get to for WROD, but I'll make the trip for K or SR.

Let's Get it Started

JEA!

Nope,(I'll say it and take the heat for it) Just a few too many weather variables to need to fall into place PERFECTLY to keep the pool of cold, dry/drier air inplace for the SUSTAINED 48 to 60 hour or so window that will be needed to get open IMHO

Sunday River is a good bet. They were downloading last year right? I think Snow might be able to pull of the Canyon/Standard route. I'm not as convinced that Killington can get T2B off the K1 though.

If they're open, I'll ski it. After last year, I don't have high expectations. They've reversed many of their other bone-headed decisions so maybe they've come to their senses on the impact of an early opening and late closing on their midwinter business and season pass sales. Diesel prices have come down so it's not anywhere near as expensive to blow snow as it looked 3 months ago. With what the economy has done, I'd think they'd be terrified of driving even more of their remaining business to their competition.

I don't have any doubt that they're going to start making snow, but if they are adamant about top to bottom as they have been the past several years, I don't know that they'll have enough time between Monday night and the weekend to get open.

I think we'll have to wait until Tuesday and see what the forecast looks like then. At the moment, it looks favorable but that can change.

What would be the options without T2B? I skied Killington one October in High School, but that was back in the days of the double with the mid station available.

It's been a long time since I've been back. Is Northridge doable with a download from snowdon, or would that be too far a walk between lifts to keep most people interested?

The past several years Killington has opened with top to bottom skiing off the K1 and Snowdon lifts..Back when I was in college..you would get into the back of a pickup truck which would drive up the long runout and then take the Canyon quad to the top and Rime and sometimes upper east fall were open..Then at the end of the day..a ride back down the Canyon quad and back into the Pickup truck..
